Where this all started...

These are my thoughts from someone that loves GT and has lived at least a 1,000 miles away from GT since graduating and has had to watch/listen and read about GT Football from afar:

1. The powers on high are not committed to GT football, they only tolerate it.

2. Outgoing AD should have never been allowed to sign any kind of a contract extention to an existing coach with a severly divided fan base.

3. Pursuing said coach in the first place over an existing coach that the players loved (Mac) showed poor vision and the hope that "hey we can get this guy and he want leave in 3 years".

4. The coaching intangibles were never looked at in depth: interraction with fans and students and media, QB developement, game plans etc....

5. Even hiring a non Tech related AD who took the job knowing he was stuck with the current coach for 5 years is suspect.

6. Said AD will leave to go to LSU when that job is vacated.

I love TECH, but I hate being a step child in a foster care program.

I'm 6-2 190lbs. Not short and stocky like the handle may indicate. But I refuse to have a defeated opinion about something I love. If you do, fine. Step aside.

Didn't George Morris, part of the old guard/big money crowd have a big hand in this after Braine was struggling to even find somebody that would take the job? And didn't Chan not only have success at the college level previously, but also at the pro level. His only "black mark" was getting fired by Jerry Jones...if you can call that a strike against him.

I don't remember Homer being a Tech grad. And for that matter I can't really think of a Tech grad I'd put in charge of the Athletic Department. And if you think LSU can lure said AD, how in the hell can you suggest that GT is a program that can secure a top ranked AD or HC?

I agree with some of what you say except for the original hiring of Chan part. Chan was potentially an excellent hire (on paper). It didn't work out and some of it was just not Chan's fault. But it is what it is today.

By the way, I'm not a fan of our leadership either but it is perplexing that they chose to hire a DRad type candidate who wants us to be an "SEC school".

Dave Braine was one of the highest paid AD's in the country. D-Rad was a sought after AD candidate. Why would LSU be interested in him if he wasn't?

Dave Braine was a big reason why we had difficulty getting a coach last time. First, people knew that Braine was going to be gone soon. Coaches like to know who their boss will be before taking a new job. Second, Braine and O'Leary did not have a good relationship and that was a factor in O'Leary leaving in the first place. Whether people here like O'Leary or not he is very well respected in the coaching fraternity and any coach that had lick of sense and was interest in the GT job last go around would have called O'Leary to learn more about the situation. I am sure that whatever O'Leary told them about Braine did not make the job sound appealing. Third, did you read Braine's sales pitch for the job? [Paraphrasing] "Outside of the service academies this is the most difficult job in the nation." "We will never win at a high level consistently." Gee, I wonder why it was difficult to find candidates?

We are in a much more better situation to get a coach now than last go around. We have a dynamic, young AD that believes that we can compete at a high level. D-Rad is the type of guy that a successful coach wants to work for and that will make a huge difference in the hiring process.

I've heard DRad say just the exact opposite on more than one occasion. What makes you think that?

Clapper I am referring to a couple of things:

1) DRad's PSL program was copied from the SEC and IMO was a mistake. We could have raised the same amount of money without destroying the long term fan allegiance. Instead he went for the SEC model and it is that model, short term PSL commitment over long term commitment, that put a whole bunch of red jerks next to us long term fans.

2) DRad made the partial season ticket plan easy for the UGA fans to participate. Because of the turnover with PSL's this was the wrong year to do that IMO. Just charge everyone $100 for the UGA game by the way.

3) The word on the street is that he wants a fire in his belly coach at Tech. That's nice but I question fire in their belly coaches long term at Tech. See Bunting at UNC. Coaches rumored for the job are all LSU types. Sorry but when are people going to figure out that we are not LSU. (Just like before when were people going to figure out that Clough and Braine loved VPI more than GT.)

4) We seem to be tending toward an easier OOC schedule a la the SEC. Certainly wins bring fans when you are the only game in town, like so in Baton Rouge. But in competitive Atlanta, you'd better have a schedule worth seeing.

If you want more fans, then put us in the south division of the ACC and stay away from Thursday night games.

At this point none of that matters. Gailey has lost the fanbase, and next year it would be even worse. Done. Next witness.

Shut up and stop crying. Things are on the way up.
If this ain't the kettle calling pot black, then I don't know what is. BOR, all I ever hear from you is crying, b----ing and moaning. Even if we get a new guy and he beats UGA and wins the MNC, you'll still by crying. Its your MO.

The PSL program did not destroy long term fan allegiance. That's a myth.

How is it an SEC type model when BC, NC$T, UNC, Clem's son, F$U, UVA all use the same deal? For better or worse, it's the prevailing trend in athletics. It brought more money into the coffers. I know SC uses this and I'm sure a few other pac-10 schools do as well.

As far as an easier schedule, I can understand your concerns--I think winning nine games a year will put more fans in the seats than a tough schedule that produces six wins.
