Where's Geoff Collins going?

Geoff Collins was hired to completely revamp the recruiting strategy and communication with high school coaches, players, and parents. He completely changed the medium for communication (early and excessive mail and texting...from multiple coaches)...junior day promotion, participation, and organization...unofficial practice visit organization and promotion....camps...etc.

Well if it's Geoff's "system," and the rest of our coaches "effort," lets hope he wrote the system down and the rest of the coaches learned it.

He is training the next guy...but it has been my experience that work ethic and top notch communication skills are extremely hard to replace.

Klein assisted Geoff this year and knows what it takes to get the job done. Let's hope he matches Geoff's energy.

Sidewalkfan,

So if it was so critical to keep Collins, and he wanted to be on the field to keep him, as many claim, then there was no way to reassign anyone else?

Hence the question, why would it be necessary to fire someone else to keep him?

If he is that critical to the program.

The question is who would you fire to keep him? The two new coaches Kelly and Hunter both did what Chan expected of them. He hired them because they were good recruiters and they both proved him right.

As hivered mentioned money was the determining factor in his leaving. We gave him a raise, told him he'd be on the field in 2008 but he decided to take the money and the rent free house at Alabama. His move was a lateral one so the 150% salary increase and the free home had to be the determining factors.

The staff worked as a team in the recruiting process, the system is in place, and we have a good start on 2008. We'll miss Geoff but his replacement has been trained and worked with Geoff last year. I expect us to continue with our recruiting success.
