Which QB would you prefer?

I don’t get why people are down on Graham. We had the worst OL I have ever seen at this level last year. I’d like to see what he does behind even a mediocre line.
Came here to say this. On the few occasions Graham had time to throw, he made some spectacular passes. Sure he missed some too, but he also rarely tried to force a ball into coverage.

This. Joe Ham had better teammates, a more experienced coaching staff, and still put up crappier stats than JG. Am I confident that Graham will be a great player going forward? Of course not - he may not even start. But giving up on him after a season behind a horrific OL and receivers more used to blocking than catching is not a good barometer.

Unless it was into double coverage deep down the middle of the field.

Our O-line wasn't P5 quality for sure, but it's really kinda hard to complete in the low 40's, percentage-wise, in a modern offense, even accounting for that. I just think that guys who were recruited for the type of offense we are running now are going to have a huge edge over him once we get them on campus and start working with them. Again, he'll have his shot. The way offenses are now, even a mediocre college QB is going to be threatening Tech QB records.

It has improved my mood to know that Graham is clearly better than Joe. Good times ahead.

We played 3 quarterbacks last year (really 4, but one for only a few snaps). JG clearly was the best of that bunch. Is he a scheme fit? Possibly not. However, I haven't given up on the possibility that JG develops into a very good QB down the line. He has athleticism that can't be taught... On the flip side, it also wouldn't surprise me if a Freshman takes the job.

That's part of what I'm excited about with the 2020 season. We expect an infusion of talented, new players. The carry-over players have a year in the system and are no longer learning from the ground up. Do I think we'll win a bunch of games? Probably not... but there's still plenty to be excited about.

No doubt Grahm has potential. Big arm, will stand in there and take a shot. Can be special running the ball. Just needs consistency, continue to develop decisionmaking, etc. Will provide stiff competition in the QB room at minimum.

Exactly. Same thing applies to our OC. He’s a heck of a coach. He just needs a decent offense line.

OL was going to be bad last year due to the transition alone. Compound that with the fact CPJ ended his time here by signing 2 OL in as many years. That was before our best one transferred to Texas and got replaced by a quasi-starter from Vandy. Then our two best remaining went down with season-ending injuries and we were starting walkons and borrowing DLs just to field the positions with warm bodies.

So yea, if you're an OL who wants to play 4 years and be coached by one of the best, now is your chance.

And James Graham should not be judged by last year. That is the opposite of a fair shake.

Dumb.

I feel very safe in saying that we will not be a good team with JG. We will not win close games against good teams with JG. You guys have seen him play, right? You've seen the size and type of the QB's we've signed, yes? He's playing because he was the best of what we had. He's not the future. He's a bridge to tomorrow right now. It's a shame, really. Wasted talent. Not his fault. Not the coaches' fault. Victim of circumstance.

I’ve said this before but what James also needs to improve on is accuracy. Everything you mention is important but I didn’t see the ability to consistently put the ball where it needed to be. Maybe that was due to pressure and he could certainly prove me wrong but to me that is a huge concern.

So many criticized the OC and yet praised Key. Key’s OL was the worst in the ACC, but that is not his fault. Nor was it the QBs fault, or the OC’s fault.
