ohhhhh....I see...

So if someone calls me "Red"....should I assume they are making fun of me for having red hair and that they are discriminatory towards redheads?

Just like we should not assume that every person in San Francisco is a flaming liberal that wants to spend us into oblivion, have no moral compass, and wants to equalize pay across the entire country despite what you do, how hard you work, or how productive you are....we should not assume that either....right?

Hussein is a fine name...I am sure many on this board have the same name...and intend to name their kids that name. Heck...its just a name...whats the big deal?

I think it's pretty obvious that saying "Barack Hussein Obama" is an attempt to be clever about one's right-wingness in an inappropriate context. The simple "Barack Obama" or "the new president" or just "Obama" would have made the poster's point about how long Randy Shannon (no middle name given) will be at Miami. But the temptation to be cute and exhibit right wing political correctness is powerful.

No different than saying George W Bush.

It is just Obama's name...I am confused...is there something to be ignorant about with that? Is there something I am supposed to be offended about? It sounds like you are the person who is drawing up problems with the middle name.
C'mon man, you're not that naive. As has been said, it's used as a way to try to link Obama to Islam or terrorists. That's how it was used during the election and it's what conservatives continue to do. Using George W was simply to make the distinction between him and his father.

which doesnt really make sense b/c his dad also has a middle name with a W, in fact the same exact one. the father is George Herbert Walker Bush, and the dumb son is George Walker Bush. So both could be referred to in fact as George W Bush, although George HW Bush might make more sense for dad, but clearly W in the sons name stands for WRONG

and Hivered, your opinion generally is greatly respected, dont act dumb now. it obvious what the intent was and no cute explanation will undo that.

I wonder what the H in "Jesus H Christ" stands for??? maybe "Hussein".

This thread took a left hand turn
well first a far-right turn, and then a sharp left turn

IMO it flew off the page. Anywho I feel sorry for Shannon. People are going to expect at least an 8 win season, and will believe they should be disappointed without a 10 win, Coastal Division champ tie, season. Really I'd be surprised if they do that much better with two brand new coordinators, a still majority young roster, and a QB that might not live up to hype now that he's the full time starter.

Just as I don't see what point is conveyed by emphasizing Randy Shannon is black.

I think the point is that firing a black head coach can be a bad PR move. You can't overlook the fact that it will make waves in the press. We're in the same situation with basketball. Add to it that our coach is the head of the BCA. You know this has to be a factor in DRad's decision process. Unfortunatly this is racism, but it is the type that is currently tolerated.

Yup. It's one of many factors, but it's not the predominant one. The predominant one will always be wins/losses.

I think being a black coach nowadays gets you about 1, maybe 2 years more than a white guy would get given the circumstances, but it's certainly not a free ride.

beej67,
the b stands for BLACKETYBLACKBLACK

I think it's more the $9.5 M price tag attached to Hewitt's firing that restrains D Rad's hand, not bad PR. Sides, even if D Rad makes a bad move his hiring of Paul Johnson would keep him in the AD seat through at least one mistake.
