White-out shirts canceled

Option two. Everyone bring a dead fish to throw.

Amazing! GT students in the past have brought dead fish to throw, but we have a hard time wearing white? Maybe we'll not have such a hard time with the white.

I was a kid when the fish were thrown. Not saying it was a good thing, but you have to give some credit for being inventive. No doubt it was well represented!

Maybe we can wear white as well as we throw fish! ;)

Nah...I think if we actually TRIED, it would work fine.

But adding one line of plain text that says something about the student body sponsoring something isn't "trying" in my book.

Hell, not to bring them into this, but the leghumper's AA marketed their "blackout" so well that ESPN was talking about it like a week before the game. People who don't even follow college football knew about it
Seriously, who doesn't know about the white out?

A guy I talked to today who would call himself a Tech fan, but does not follow the team or the happenings very closely. He has a friend who works at Tech who is giving him a ticket for the game. I told him about the white out and he thought it would be cool and agreed to participate. This is an older guy, probably 55 years old. I think that is the demographic who may not know about it.

Why are y'all jumping on the people who says it's not going to turn out good? They didn't say they're not going to participate. They are justified thinking it's going to suck. It did last year. Thank god ESPN almost exclusively showed the student sections cause they were the only one's participating with spotted people elsewhere.

Seriously, who doesn't know about the white out?

The development officers who run a few of the suites to host alumni in, for one.

Also, judging by the absolutely ridiculous email from Bud Peterson telling us to behave that didn't mention a thing about wearing white, probably him too.

RATS ON THE FIELD and GET THE TIGERS TAIL!

A very satisfying tradition.

Remember - you can take Clemson out of the country, but, you can't take the country out of Clemson!

Why in heck are we not wearing white to every game anyway?

A lot of long time supporters have raised the devil about the team not, in the past, wearing white shirts.

People are always complaining about how hard it is to match the gold.

We always seem to try and outwit ourselves.

Just wear white all the time, either shirts or sweatshirt when it turns cold.

None of the other 7 people that I'm bringing to the game knew until today. Four of them go to multiple games a year.

I will be there, and I will be participating.

But there is NO denying that this was HORRIBLY organized.

Capital idea, friend!

I thought it was publicized much more widely last year with all of the "get your White Out gear" emails from the AA, The Good Word from DRad, etc. Seems like the AA has washed its hands of the entire event by calling it student sponsored this season.

I'm not saying folks shouldn't know about it, but it sure has not been publicized as well as the event was last year.

I believe this is what happened.

I will be wearing white.

I suspect the people who normally wear Gold will wear white.

The people who wear pink, navy, or rainbows and similar NON-official colors will probably continue to do so.

p.s., based on the tags below, I believe this thread will produce a number of interesting hits for stingtalk

Is it really hard to organize a whiteout? Here are some simple ideas for next year:

1) Make the whole ticket white. Not just "Student sponsored whiteout" printed in inconspicuous text. Make the whole damn ticket white so it stands out.

2) Send two e-mails and a letter to everyone who has bought season tickets or single game tickets through the GTAA. Not students. They know to wear white already(or they'll figure it out.) As far as I can tell I have gotten nothing in the way of e-mails or letters to let me know about the whiteout.

3) Charge $10 extra for season tickets. Use said $10 to send EVERYONE a white shirt with their tickets.

3b) Don't forget to print the white shirts.

4) Viral highlight video from Miami last year saying to wear white against Clemson. This should be the first thing that you see when you go to rr.com, before you can even get to the normal page.

5) Post the info on the video board near the interstate that most Tech fans will drive by at some point during the week. Note this may have already been done, I live out of state so I don't see that board.

6) Pick a game where 1/3 of the stadium won't be the other team. Yes, this means that it might not be national TV or nighttime, but having a good whiteout in the day is a lot better than a bad whiteout at night. This year we should have chosen VT, since it will be a big game regardless and probably has a good shot of being a night game. Clemson could very easily turn out to be a disaster even if 100% of Tech fans wear white.

7) Jesus Christ, did they really not make announcements about it on the video board at the JSU game? I just assumed they did and I was too drunk to remember. That is really pretty awful. Thx GiveEmHellJackets.

This is all off the top of my head, and I don't think any of it's been done. It makes me wonder who runs this stuff in the GTAA and how much they get paid.

Imagine all the THOUSANDS of Clemson game goers they could have reached if they had simply used our MegaGiganticTonsOMoneySpent-A-Tron screen to run like one announcement per quarter and two at halftime during the JSU game about the whiteout? It might have annoyed people, but they damn well would have remembered it. Better yet, play a video of a guy in a Chan mask telling people to wear white and people would have remembered it, youtubed it, and posted about it all week.

7) Announce it over the loudspeaker at the game(s) before the scheduled whiteout when you have 90% of the potential whiteout attendees in one place with a really simple way to communicate with all of them

I mean seriously...it would have taken 15 seconds. IIRC we even mentioned something about the Clemson game over the loudspeaker during the JSU game.

"Jackets fans, don't forget to wear your white for the Clemson game on Thursday"

Tada!

Sorry, rant over. Gah.

PS - The white ticket idea is good.

Maybe we should compile this list and shoot it to DRad?

It's obvious that good intentions were there...maybe they would appreciate some tips on execution from the actual fanbase.

I'm planning on it but I'm going to wait until next week since he will likely be inundated with e-mails so close to gameday. Should have done this during the offseason I guess but I figured with a whole year to plan it they wouldn't do this poor of a job. Guess I figured wrong.

I emailed him asking him to have an email reminder sent to "The Sting" subscribers tomorrow morning.

I know he is busy but I'm sure he won't be happy if a failed whiteout brings negative attention to our program.

I've talked to a couple of friends that are going. One actually is a good friend...the other guy came to my house uninvited and rooted for georgia during the game 3 years ago so.

the uninvited guy told me "oh yeah i'll be rooting for tech". but anyways, we are definitely about to get some bandwagon jumpers that WILL NOT be well informed enough to be wearing white.

i do believe these folks are going to be in the north stands though so the season ticket/student sections should be looking pretty good.
