I got a call from Paul Johnson this morning and I'll be returning punts against Miami.
Roddy had been doing good until the UNC game. After he muffed the last one Andrew Smith was returning punts. I wonder how Marcus would do returning punts?
Well, look at it this way--we might not force another punt this year.

My question is: Do we really need a punt returner?
Seriously. I say don't put anyone back there anymore. What's the worst that could happen? We probably lose 10 more yards of field position every time and sometimes have to come out of our own end zone. But I'd bet we'd block a punt or two. I guess the question is how many yards in field position is worth compared to a turnover? I think a lot.
Additionally, we could rest our backs a bit more as we're pretty thin right now.
Good grief guys.
In his third game returning punts he has an off day and everyone wants to crucify him.
I clearly remember Kelly Rhino...a "money in the bank" punt returner at securing the ball and getting one first down...dropping three or four against LSU in the Peach Bowl.
This was his senior year after 30+ games returning punts and never having trouble.
The coaches will figure out what the issue was and decide what to do....I am not worried about it.
If the other team sees we have no return man, they will line drive punt it. We'll lose a lot more than 10 yards. The only reason to hang the ball in the air is to let the coverage get down the field.
What we need is for the Rhino family to have more kids!
