Who the Coaches Voted For

Pretty cool - And now I have no pity at all for Rich Rodriguez and his fiasco at Michigan (not to mention the Ole' Ball Coach - Wish we would have gotten his boys in the Chick-Fil-A!)

Check out these idiots' votes - After we beat Ugag in Athens:

Joe Glenn (Wyoming) GT-20 Ugag-16
Gary Patterson (TCU) GT-15 Ugag-13
Rich Rogriguez (Mich) GT-19 Ugag-17
Jim Tressel (Ohio St) GT-19 Ugag-16

And Mike Leach voting his own Texas Tech team #2 - This guy's voting rights should be yanked!

Les Miles put us at #12, and only 3 other coaches had us higher out of everyone.

Coincidence? Don't think so.

And just out of curiosity, why doesn't CPJ have a vote in this?

How 'bout this for a bad vote.

Ole Miss is ranked #24.

Urban Meyer put them at #12, far away the highest vote.

Any ideas why???

It's supposed to be a fairly uniform distribution across the country and various conferences. Now that Tommy Bowden, Fulmer, Tuberville, Croom, etc are gone, maybe CPJ can sneak in.

Spurrier voted us #20 and UGA #19. What a crock of ****.

I don't see anything wrong with this. The only team with a solid claim to being above Texas Tech is Oklahoma, for obvious reasons. Who else had a better season than TT? Texas, who lost to them? Florida, who lost to Ole Miss AT HOME? Sure, they beat Bama because they got an opportunity to play them, but who's to say that TT wouldn't have beaten Missouri if allowed to play in the Big XII championship?

Probably the same reason Tommy Bowden had us up high (#10) - Even though he's gone, he wanted to help out Clemson's bowl credentials and his resume for a new job.

I've heard CPJ say before, I think it was on one of the radio shows, that's he's not interested in being a voter, and has declined in the past. His comments, such as he doesn't know how any coach has the time to do a quality evaluation of all the teams, seems to indicate he doesn't think much of the legitimacy of the poll.

He answered that question during a call in show. It was really pretty hilarious. (paraphrased)

"Because I think it's stupid."

..when asked to elaborate...

"What the hell am I going to do? I'm out there every day telling my players they're the best team in the country, and then I'm going to rank them 18th or whatever? I don't even get to see tape on the west coast teams, I'm too busy prepping for my next game. If I had a vote, I'd give it to my secretary."

..when asked how she'd vote...

"Well she'd probably vote Tech pretty highly."

I noticed that Sylvester Croom voted --shouldn't this vote be yanked the minute your school shows you the door? Not good enough to coach --not good enough to vote.

I wish vegas was the only poll.

I hate polls, but in vegas, people have their money riding on the games so they are ALOT more honest.

Some of it is ignorance, some bias, some simple self-interest. (Bias is different from self-interest in that the voter may simply believe that all SEC teams are better regardless of any fluke losses.)

I read on another sports blog of a Harris Poll voter who actually did not know that Penn State had lost a game. How much research do you need to do to know the records of the teams you vote for?

ALL opinion polls are corrupt inherently. They should be for entertainment purposes only and have no influence on a national champion, at all, even selection for a playoff.

He is exactly right - Coaches from places like Wyoming, Michigan, Ohio State, and TCU are no better suited (or maybe even less suited) than sportswriters for determing how good we are. There should be some kind of weighting involved in this whereby a coach's vote counts less for a team in a remote location/conference than for those they've played or are in their same geographical neighborhood.

Anyone see Mark Richt's votes? He actually ranked us 15th and uga 16th. Of course he also ranked Florida/Alabama 1/2.

I doubt that most coaches really fill out the coaches poll. Usually that's delegated to a grad assistant or secretary.
