Who the hell let Loltz out of the nursing home?

My theory is that Lou is trying to get Weis fired. The higher the expectations, the worse an 8 or 9 win season looks, and the easier it will be to fire him. Lou does not honestly think that ND will make it to the BCSCG.

Hawaii was more deserving of their Sugar Bowl berth than Notre Lame would be for making a BCS bowl this season.

Notre Dame has gamed the system. Being undefeated is more important than playing a hard schedule, ever since they took out the SOS component from the BCS formula. They can play a schedule that's basically all Div2 teams and then make it to the National Championship game, then lose horribly, and rake in the cash.

I think Lou is just pluggin them due to personal nostalgia. His theory is solid minus the Champ Game. Its very realistic for them to make a BCS game with their schedule unfortunately. Especially with their own clause

I thought they strengthened the SOS metric in the BCS formula. Wasn't this the Oklahoma rule from a few years back? Am I wrong? Misguided? Bueller?

+1

Holtz is an idiot.

The biggest factor in the BCS is the human polls, and humans still care about strength of schedule. Notre Dame could NOT make it to the BCSCG if they played twelve Div 2 teams and they will NOT make it there this year unless they go undefeated and look good doing it. They will go 9-3 and, sadly, make it to one of the other BCS bowls. Maybe we'll kick their asses in it.

He is correct in that they have an easy schedule by playing only one ranked opponent. That is the easiest path a BCS game.

Penn State has the same thing essentially by only playing Ohio State and #22 Iowa.

Ole Miss only plays one ranked opponent (#11 LSU), but would have to win the SEC Championship Game as well.

Boise State plays one ranked opponent (#16 Oregon) on top of a cupcake conference schedule every weekend.

Basically...a lot of these teams that will get a shot at the big game will only have to beat one or two ranked opponents to get there.

For all of those that thought we do not play a hard enough schedule...we play four ranked opponents.

When you say we play or they play a certain amount of ranked opponents, do you mean preseason ranked? I think it's more important to see which of your opponents are ranked by the end of the season.

Do any of you really think that an undefeated Notre Dame, regardless of schedule, would not play in the National Championship game? If they beat USC, the media would go nuts and that is all we would hear. The BCS is flawed in a big way.

How can it be said in the same breath that an undefeated Notre Dame would go to the BCSCG "regardless of schedule" and that the reason they would get there is their victory over USC? "Regardless of schedule" to me means that a 12-0 Notre Dame team would go to the BCSCG even if they played 12 teams with losing records. This I do not agree with. If Notre Dame runs the table this year (including a win over USC), then yes, I think they would probably go unless there were two undefeated conference champs among the Big 12, SEC, ACC, Big 10 or Pac 10.

Should an undefeated team go to the BCS MNC?

YES.

However, conference membership with an 8 game conference schedule should be MANDATORY.

If there are multiple undefeateds, then we'll worry about the rest.

So you are saying ND has no pull in the College football world? Let's see: They have their own TV contract, their own clause in the BCS, and the College FB Hall of Fame is on their own doorstep. No, I do not think it is right, but I have been following FB for a loooong time. I have seen ND go to a major bowl with 5 losses.

God Bless Dr. Lou. I'm so glad ESPN has continued to hide his meds. Lou said the same thing last season. And it would have happened too, had the Irish not across the powerhouse that was Greg Robinson football.

What else would I go by Xihix? Do you have a copy of the first week's poll in November yet? If os....please post it.
