who will be commit #12?

It will be Days (ATH...may take first shot at QB but has serious throwing issues)...but he will not go on scholarship until 2011 instead of 2010.

We have one spot left right now....but would take both Kareem Martin (should know by the end of Sept.) and Kony Ealy (after football season or perhaps January). Ryan White is still a had situation to predict.

we need a RB like dwyer.

...and a QB like Joe Hamilton
...and a WR like Calvin Johnson
...and a LB like Keith Brooking
...and a DE like Marco Coleman

First round draft picks are few and far between for any team.

We already have a commitment from our top running back on our board for the Class of 2010...that is Charles Perkins. He will likely play BB at his current rate of growth.

Im shocked that the Skole kid got an offer. He must be better than I gave him credit.

nothing stands out in the film that I see either...and combined with the fact we have so few ships, plenty of AB's, and our two top safety targets verbally commiitted...I find it all odd.

However, I am not a football expert....I am not paid $$millions$$ to make these decisions...and I trust CPJ. Always glad when someone wants to be a Jacket.

he may end up signing for MLB, no? so, to me this is a good gamble by the coaches. if the kids earns a spot by next year, give him a scholly. if not, he is probably gone to baseball anyways.

if he does well in football, i still see him playing beesball here too.

Unlike Days, Skole apparently will be put on scholarship right away with the Class of 2010 (Days in 2011)....should he not go the pro baseball route. To date, his family has said he will be in college at least three years first.

He will definitely play baseball at GT also...but football has to take the scholarship if you are on scholarship and play both sports.

i see, he is a 2010. yeah, i know about the FB/BB scholly rule.

how does it work if you stop FB after, say, the first year but continue in BB. since they are one-year renewables, would he then only count as BB scholly?

maybe this is our coaches tricky way of adding to the BB scholly pool by sacrificing a FB scholly ;)

That is a great question. If he quits football altogether...perhaps the scholarship can then move to baseball if he is playing that sport. I have never seen that before...but it makes sense to me. However, it seems Skole is sold on doing both as he loves football.

That means he is going to grayshirt and not play or practice in 2010 then enroll Spring 2011 (Like Melton)? Or is he going to be on the team, Redshirting but without a scholarship?

Melton was out of necessity...he was injured...so he just waited to begin his matriculation.

Days will start playing football with us in the fall of 2010 (assumption being he picks GT Friday ;))...he will just not go on scholarship until 2011 when more are available. If one pops open before then they will go ahead and put him on schollie.

He got a laundry list of offers from other big programs.

well...there are conflicting reports on that. FSU may have been baseball only. UGA had offered him football, but supposedly they cooled after getting their 5th DB commit as they wanted him on defense.

as I said...if CPJ wants anyone...that is good enough for me. I am not an expert....and generally I do not care who else has offerred.

No FSU was football too. LSU along with USCe offered football as well. While UGAy may have "cooled" on him. He still had a commitable offer.

the only reason I am skeptical is that he had a publicized GT offer before he really had one.

I am always skeptical about offers...i would bet about 15-25% of self-reported offers out there are not "commitable".

Anyway...not saying this is the case with Skole. Just because his fundamentals on film are not impressive it does not mean the coaches do not know a way to use his skills to be a great player for us. As I have said multiple times now....they know a lot more than I do about how each recruit should play out in the long run.

Since many baseball players only get half (or less) scholarships, does he have to use an entire one? I'm not familiar with this rule. Also, how does HOPE affect this? We have a ton of players from GA, so could one of them go on HOPE? Obviously, players would prefer a full scholarship, but there could be an understanding that in the event the player loses HOPE, he would be given a scholarship.

Got ya. I remember a few years ago where a kid actually held a presser to announce his commitment to UCLA/CAL (?) but had no offer lol

Red,

Grayshirt is a pretty new term but I haven't seen or heard it used in that context by friends or posters from schools who practice it commonly.

Normally it means the Melton plan, but by choice, normally due to lack of an available scholarship. Delay entry until January and then you have 5 to play 4. Flagrant over-signing, high-class-attrition programs like Bama and VT will have a grayshirt list that is sort of like a wait-list.

What you describe seems more along the lines of entering as a PWO, with the promise of a scholly next year.

My limited understanding is that Days actually likes the idea of grayshirting and then being in the same true-frosh class as his brother. But you could be right as well. Either way it is very exciting for GT to be taking a player of Days' quality on a delayed scholly.

Is there any difference in the NCAA rules between signing with a school as part of the scholarship class, and signing with them as a preferred walk-on?
