who will be the number 2 qb at T day?

If our pass blocking improves, Josh will show you what he can do throwing the ball. If it doesn't, you can forget the passing game, regardless of who is throwing the rock.

Amen.

Besides, its a no-brainer. Josh throws better than Jaybo on the run.

Here's a question: Would Jaybo losing the #2 spot hurt our recruiting efforts with his brother, Connor?

Not because he's his brother, that's for sure. However, it might come to mean that a somewhat less athletic quarterback won't get up the depth chart as easily here (not sure how athletic Connor is, just assuming he's similar to his brother at this point).

I think this season and next season are going to solidify our future QB after Nesbitt. We're kind of stock piling some potential (notice I didn't say talent) at the QB position. If Tevin is as good as he's getting a lot of credit for being, then he is going to stay at QB. Jaybo doesn't really project as anything else other than a QB. Jordan Luallen and David Sims will both be redshirted. Luallen looks to be a bonafide QB to me. I have to think that Sims could play either A-back or B-back if we have enough talent at the QB position.

I don't think Shaw ends up at GT, because he's got a lot of young guys at the same position right in front of him. If they were older, I could see him wanting to get in our depth chart, but they are not.

I wouldn't read too much into spring practice. Last year it was Dykes that was getting love. Shaw is dealing with a fumbling problem right now, but it could be Washington's turn this week.

I like the fact that we have 3 guys who can play the position in this offense. I don't want to sweat through another Gardner Webb this year.

I think you are on point here, but it is encouraging to hear of the progress of Tevin, as we can surely use a couple of solid backups for Josh.

One thing is certain: Tevin is a very talented open-field runner. PJ will not let a talent like that go unused. If Tevin does remain 3rd string, would Tevin be cross-trained elsewhere?

Historically PJ has used QBs as A backs if they were the best option, then switched 'em back to QBs when they were needed. While not nearly Spurrier-like, PJ has also played different QBs based on what they do well and what he thinks will 'go' against a given defense.

For example, let's say VT pursues the same strategy they did against us last year: Take away Dwyer and the pitch, and make the QB run the ball--then try to wear him out. If Josh is out, who do you put in-- Tevin or Jaybo? I think Tevin would be a strong candidate because he is the biggest homerun threat at QB we have.

This is great stuff for us to argue about. Even better is the team mentality the players have. They just want to do whatever they can to make the team win. Very refreshing.

Tevin had so far to go last year that I just don't see him making up that much ground this year. Nice kid, but he was not in Jaybo's league last Fall.

To the poster that worried when Jaybo came in against UGA, I certainly didn't worry. Jaybo was a freshman last year and played incredibly important minutes in three different situations. He did exactly what he had to do to help us beat Georgia, Duke and Mississippi State. It didn't scare me at all when he came in. (Besides the option was working and Jaybo was the best option quarterback.)

I just think that for 2009, Jaybo has a death grip on the #2 job. I'll be extremely surprised if he lost the spot. (He's also the perfect #2 quarterback for a top team.)

I think the main thing discussed about the improvement of Tevin is not entirely that he improved past Shaw but that he improved his QB skills from last year.

From the Macon Telegraph articles, TW has gotten rave reviews. JS was really only mentioned for the center-QB exchange problems.

I could certainly see TW jump JS. He has the talent. Jaybo was just the best at running the option last year. He knew when go give and when to go.

With more passing, and with the other guys getting some time in the offense, it could be a whole new ballgame. Regardless, Jaybo has shown he is a viable QB in a BCS conference. Having three of those guys ready to go would be amazing.

Having JW lined up at A-back would also add a nice wrinkle for other DC's to worry about.

Course the main thing Jaybo did against ugag was a called pitch play, not the option. I don't know that Tevin will pass him, but I don't think Jaybo's hold on the #2 spot is all that solid. First of all he needs to quit fumbling snaps and second he has to show more than Tevin this spring and in the fall.

I think Josh is clearly #1 and unless Tevin's passing game has greatly improved Jaybo is solid at #2. I just hope we can redshirt both Luallen and Sims.

FYI from practice reports Washington had trouble with fumbled snaps yesterday as well.

Main thing is it's looking more like we've got 3 QB who can run the offense and move the chains.

Jaybo is a great student of the game who will have the mental aspects down, and has the phsyical tools to move the chains when the offense is clicking. Tevin appears to be still be learning the mental aspects, and has the tools to create when the offense breaks down. He's also a homerun threat. Right now it's consistency, competency, and preparation vs. upside & freakish athleticism.

This is a matter of reps and concentration, right? CPJ wouldn't be looking at him if he couldn't concentrate. The reps will come.
