Who's the most overrated GT football player of all-time?

I'll say Xavier Maguire - I remember he blocked a punt once. He had size and l always thought he was going to break through, just never did.

Jonathan Garner. Recruited by Florida by Zook. Meyer came on board and didn't want him. When he signed, I thought we has stolen a great QB. He was weak armed.

hobie holiday by a mile! a *****who's committ was front page new's on the ajc. stop the fight...NO CONTEST!

Take the hype of Holiday and multiply it by about 5 and that was the hype of Dudish.

Clearly guys, he is the most overrated player we've had in my lifetime.

Did Hobie Holiday ever really play? Thought he left during/after his freshman yr; i remember Wes saying he was looking forward to Hobie on the field at one of the Macon club bbq meetings at Westmoreland Farms, something like "Hobie Holiday, I can do somethig with that name from the booth".

Is everyone who is choosing Derrick Steagall remembering that he broke his arm his freshman year then missed his entire junior year while having reconstructive surgery on his knee then tore it up again and came back again?

In spite of his injury-plagued career he still managed to set Tech's single-game receiving record against UVa, is in the top ten in five career receiving categories and finished with more yards per catch than Calvin.

Could never ever understand why he signed with Tech in the first place. Certainly a testament to why one should never put too much faith in "recruits".

Some of these picks are beyond loony. To even mention Little Joe in the same sentence as overrated is ridiculous. Joe was in fact underrated since he deserved the Heisman Trophy and didn't win it.

Godsey was underrated - jeepers, he has the second highest career passing rating in GT history (behind Little Joe, of course) and the highest completion percentage. He was a nearly flawless QB once he got a few starts under his belt.

PJ Daniels? Jonathan Smith? These guys exceeded expectations, and it's not like they were picked as All-Americans or anything.

Ken Swilling is probably one of the better answers given. He had a great year in 1990 but was a pretty big bust his senior year.

He's certainly more in line with the VPI and Bama choices that started the thread.

Well, most of the answers totally missed the point of the OP and are identifying highly touted recruits who were busts.

If you answer the question correctly then by definition most people are going to disagree on any given opinion. Because if they are overrated then it means they are highly rated by most and therefore highly regarded by most.

I don't think Joe Hamilton was overrated at all, but if UT fans can discuss whether Vince Young (Heisman trophy, MNC) was overrated then I don't think Hamilton is immune from discussion.

P.J. is an example of a player who was highly regarded by GT fans, even if he didn't get national recognition.

Obviously, "overrated" and "underrated" are highly subjective terms.

People may be answering the wrong question, but The Champ gave 100% the RIGHT answer. K Scott was a highly rated recruit so many people thought was a great player, and he was average. He defines overrated.

Good answer but I think you have the wrong guy from the 2003 recruiting class. Rashaun Grant.
