Why all the hate for Bennett?

Seems like most of the boards are pretty thankful that Taylor Bennett probably won't start another football game.

But damn...some of the comments on this board today indicate it was the sole reason we lost. He orchestrated our opening scoring drive. Only mistake he seemed to make was that he wasn't getting rid of the ball very quickly.

I think its just funny that Nesbitt escapes criticism from throwing a pass right to a DB (that JJ knocked down) and Booker made a few unadvised throws (one of which just happened to end up a TD...).

Okay, Taylor had a bad year. Very bad year especially statistically. But today he was 9 for 15, with a TD pass that right over the shoulder, and several great out routes (the same type fresno could throw all game). Honestly, even the announcers didn't know why he was benched. Lets not throw him under the bus for this bowl game.

Oh, and I can't wait for the CPJ era :). Happy New Year everyone and do try to remember that its only a game :)

You got to understand.......Tech folks MUST have somebody to hate.

Last year it was Reggie Ball.

Right now its Bennett.

All the time.....its Chan Gailey.....even if he's gone!

Just the way it is at Tech.....sorry 'bout that!!

Bennett was not benched.. He broke his throwing hand in the 1st series. He finished the 1st half with allot of pain but the break and the cold weather just made it too tough to actually hold on to the ball.

Per Cjt's comments in the ajc, tb took a sack, a "no-no". Afterwards, the broken hand showed up on x-rays.

Having said this, I try not to blame the players. But I will gladly hit a coach with a 2' x 4'.

Nesbitt is already a runner extraordinaire. He needs a lot on his passing game. A lot of work.

im for one very thankful we will not see taylor bennett anymore, he cant move, he doesnt get rid of the ball and he makes bad throws

In my opinion, he, like Michael Vick, got a reputation of being a bad passer because his receivers were absolutely awful. Also like Michael Vick, his receivers were very young with lots of potential, but they dropped lots of easy balls which took away yards, touchdowns(see second play of U[sic]GA game), and killed his completion percentage.

Taylor sure looks better when receivers actually catch the ball. Our opening drive was not the result of a bad passer.

People started the season with exceedingly high expectations for Bennett, he ended the season as I think they said the 10th rated passer in the ACC. Some of it his fault, a lot of it the recievers fault, and a bunch of it coaching. He's bearing the brunt of people's overly optimistic expectations on the season.

Taylor can throw the ball well at times but he is erratic and has a slow release. I would think much of that is his relative inexperience and perhaps coaching, but the fact of the matter is he was not effective this season for a variety of reasons, not all of which had to do with him.

Something I heard here at work today, so maybe someone can clarify it if it isn't true.

The general story on Bennett was that he broke his hand. But according to someone here at work, supposedly they hadn't X-Rayed it when they made that announcement. The general consensus was that Tenuta benched him for taking a sack on 4th and 7.

If that's the case well, there were about 11 players on defense that should have been benched instead...

Edit: Looking forward to next year. I really do hope Taylor has a part in the offense, even if he just comes in as a sort of run and shoot package. But obviously, PJ systems requires a dual-threat, and Nesbitt and Jaybo Shaw will be the best fits. Can't wait :)

I want to see Taylor in as a Tight End, and used as a motion pitch man on occasion who can pull up and pass the ball. He played TE in high school, don't forget.

He was listed at 6-3, 200 as an incoming freshman. Smallish, but he may have put on a few lbs since then.

Taylor Bennett is a solid 6' 3" in basketball sneakers. He's a fairly big dude. He has to have better hands then our current wideouts. I only watched our first drive before I gave up and fired up Call of Duty 4, but our guys couldn't catch a cold.

Can anyone here say they want to see TB be our starting QB next season? If so please explain to me why? I for one hope that I never see him throw another pass again in a Tech uniform.

Of course we won't use a TE unless PJ changes his sets (which he obviously may).
You can certainly run flexbone with a TE.

This is a superb treatment of how the flexbone works, tactically: (page appropriately titled "What are they doing at the Naval Academy?")

I understand that beej. My point was that's not the way PJ normally runs it. We'll all see how he adjusts as time goes on.
