Why did Ugag jump higher than us?

We were 26th and 27th in the polls. After we demolished a ranked unc, we jumped to a whopping 25th and 26th. Meanwhile, ugag jumped from 21st to 18th and from 17th to 14th after squeaking by a weak Az St.

Rankings are bs. I wouldn't be as upset but for the outside chance they come into play in a tie-breaking situation to go to the ACC title game.

Screw the polls. I don't think the computers will be as biased when the BCS polls come out, though who knows about the human ones.

Most people have recognized that this year's polls are far less logically driven this season. I'm really not paying any attention to them after this past week. I'll be interested if we get on a good run, but for the time being the rankings are mostly irrelevant, especially considering their inanity so far.

I think it comes down to TV time. Where were the highlights on SportsCenter / College Gameday Final? Hint: they were either a score report or nothing at all. Pollsters probably saw the final score, not the box score, and voted based on that. Plus we get no respect.

The weekly fluctuations in the polls have been more prominent than in previous seasons. I think this just goes to show that pollsters really aren't doing a good job. Either that or parity is making the job more difficult. It's not lost on anybody that most coaches or sportswriters who cast a vote see few games. Perhaps some of the voters take it more seriously than others --watch highlights, review boxscores-- but I doubt many do this.

GT could have put 38 or 41 on the board and could have shut UNC out. Maybe a 38-0 score bumps GT a few more spots --who knows. As for UGA moving up to 14 --I was at the UGA/ASU game and UGA was dam# lucky to pull that one out, so I have no idea what voters 'saw' in that game that justified propelling UGA into the top 15. I think conference affiliation plays a part in UGA getting the benefit of the doubt, but I also think the fact that UGA has been around the top ten in recent years plays a part as well.

A look at this weeks polls just reeks of SEC bias --why is LSU 4th and Cincinnati 10th or TCU 11th or even Michigan 22nd. What is the difference between any of these teams right now other than LSU was 11th preseason, six spots higher than any of the beforementioned teams.

Again, there are 3 rankings: 1, 2, everyone else.

This is a good point. Now that GT has a loss and will not be playing in the BCS championship game --for we all know that if UT, Bama, USC, OSU, etc.. have one loss along with GT, GT will not get the nod-- it's best just to focus on what GT can accomplish.

GT wins out then GT plays in a BCS bowl
GT wins out then GT will be ranked higher than UGA
GT wins out and wins it's BCS bowl then GT will finish with a top five ranking.

Win.

UGa got a bigger bump, I think in part, because they played a west coast team. They got themselves on the radar sports writers that normally wouldn't give them the a second thought. UGa is a good team, but they aren't a nationally recognized team. It's not like they are LSU or UF who have a recent national title. So when they beat someone out west, more people take notice.

I think we would have gotten a bigger boost by beating UCLA than UNC.

1 word.

SECspeed
That's three words, dumbass.

The polls this year are a complete joke. It started with the complete overvaluing of BYU after beating OU, and has continued ever since, and gotten increasingly worse. I think the problem is two-fold. One, too much reliance on last year's teams and two, reading too much into upsets. It will continue this week, because UGA will either lose to LSU, and get dropped, or beat LSU and heralded as a top 10 team. Either way, it's stupid.

I blame Chan Gailey.

Or the fact that Miami made us look like a bunch of pantywaisted little girls on national TV. We'd probably be up near Georgia if we'd forced more than 2 punts and 0 turnovers in the 6 of the 8 quarters we were on ESPN national TV on consecutive Thursday Nights.

The nation has an impression of our team, and it's been formed by squeaking by unranked can't-even-beat-TCU Clemson on special teams and questionable calls, and by letting Miami use us as tackling dummies. That's what the nation knows about Tech, and will stay that way for the whole year. We had our chance for national recognition and we blew it spectacularly.

We do not deserve to be ranked.

Our next shot at showing that we've changed as a team is FSU and VPI. If we can beat those two teams we can get back up into the mid teens. If we close out strong we'll be in the low teens going into Georgia due to late season attrition.

Yep, our only option left is to kick the crap out of everyone else on our schedule.

If we beat FSU & VPI, things will take care of themselves. If we don't, it doesn't really matter.

Don't know about the Chan Gailey part, but everything else is on the money. The first order of business is to take care of Mississippi State in a convincing manner. Then on to Tallahassee.

Generally, no one really jumps in the polls; other people fall below them. U[sic]GA rose three spots because Cal, Miami, and FSU all lost from high ranked spots. Only one of those teams was ranked low enough to drop out of the polls, FSU, which is where our one spot jump came from.

My God didnt you know, they are in the SECESPN they go up 3 notches when they play IDLE.:laugher:

To the media and pollsters, Georgia will always be the better team, and any team UGA plays will be tougher than any ACC matchup... we could have an 9-year streak against them, four ACC championships, and a national title in the span of 10 years and the story will still be "Georgia is just having a tough time. They'll be ranked #15, and GT will have to prove themselves worthy of being a competitive team..."

I think Beej is right :eek5: (whisper: don't tell him I said that)

I think our national Thursday night games were a) get ahead on trick plays then fall apart with our 1 dimensional offense only to prevail at the end because the other team gave out and b) get flat out blown out my Miami who got flat blown out by VT.

I don't want to be highly ranked frankly. I'd love to be about 10 points behind Ugay in the poll when we meet in November...
