Why does Dontae Aycock listen to troubled Dwight Smith?

A guy with multiple arrests....

I understand the family thing...but against the advice of his head coach and other guardians/teachers?....instead listening to a troubled Dwight Smith who has been arrested countless times and released by teams like the Bucs, Saints, and Vikings for having off-field criminal trouble and attitude problems.

Now...the acts of Dwight Smith are in no way a reflection of Dontae Aycock who by all accounts is a great kid. It just makes the entire thing all the more maddening considering the judgment exercised on a regular basis by the person Dontae decided to listen to above everyone else.

If you view Bucs and Vikings message boards from the past, you can see fans regularly begging for him to be released because of clubhouse problems he caused.

Over time, just a few of the things Dwight Smith has been charged with...many at the wee hours of the morning of course when nothing good every happens:

1) Charged with assault after pointing a handgun at another motorist during a shouting incident following a road rage incident (4:00pm) with that person who was the other motorist(Tampa April 2003)

2) Charged with assault after he pulled a pellet gun and threatened to shoot to approaching fans while at a McDonalds (4:00am) because they "annoyed him" (Tampa February 2005)

3) Charged with indecent conduct after found having sex in a hotel stairwell at 2:00am (this on a team pre-season game weekend). (Minneapolis August 2006)

4) Charged with possession or marijuana and obstructing traffic (10:30pm)....admitted to NFL to using marijuana that night (Minneapolis December 2007)

Dwight Smith was even honored by making the 2008 All-Criminal Team by the EndZoneBuzz.com. http://www.endzonebuzz.com/502...iminal_team.php

Probably because Dwight Smith, despite his obvious character flaws, makes more money than his head coach and other guardians/teachers combined.

And Dontae was RAISED by this guy?

If he had signed with Tech, I would have been happy but also worried about his potential behavioral problemos.

I don't know the kid but statistically speaking, he could very well end up as the next CE3.

Maybe Dwight steered him away from Tech because Calvin used him like a rag doll every day in practice?

Gold chains, cadillac escalade, young girls, long coats and $$$$$$$$$$

Suddenly I'm completely happy with Donte Aycock going to Auburn.

After all is said and done we might be better off without him.
I wish him the best.

I've suspected there was more to the story than the media was reporting. Maybe the real problem with the Auburn trip was the indication of who was mentoring this kid. We certainly don't need influences like this imposing their opinions in the Tech locker room. It's fine to give a kid an opportunity and the benefit of the doubt, but when your worst suspicions start to show up, pull the plug.

Indeed, it's one thing to listen to the advice of a relative in the NFL, it's another to let him make the decisions on what you are going to do.

P.S. : Your profile pic is awesome.

My question would be why are we in any way even discussing dontae anymore?

We got some soon to be great OL who already understand the concept of being nasty.

Great W/R.

Great QB's

DL who will be, if not already, monsters.

We got it all.

THWG.

How many hours until TML?

I guess because he is his big brother (not quite sure why they have different last names so maybe he is his step brother). He probably grew up idolizing him and sees him as a role model. Maybe Dwight will be a positive addition to the Auburn Football players parent group. You think?

Hopefully Donte will find a new mentor over at Auburn that will teach him that your word is your bond and worth more than all the diamonds, escalades, whores, etc. you could possibly ever possess.

Go Jackets!

DA is just a kid who listened to BAD advise--hope it doesn't impact his future--I am PROUD of all our recruits and look forward to their playing for the White & Gold--and I am double proud that we have a couch who believes that your word is your BOND!

Was there any real need for this post or was this cathardic for you in making a post about a kid you really wanted to GT?

Kids sometimes make mistakes like we did when we were kids. Kids sometimes listen to the wrong people, like we sometimes did when we were kids.

It is what it is. He's not coming here and we've known that for 3 days now. Just because he made a mistake doesn't mean he has or will have poor character.

I'm going to take off the gold colored glasses for a second and wonder why his going to Auburn was a mistake. My alma mater is not for everyone. It's hard, it involves tons of work, and it has limited class options. I love it for all of those reasons. I can see why an eighteen year old would not. He went to Auburn and for one Saturday during the year I'm going to wish him the best and hope his team violates the mutts in ways that even Germans wouldn't put into porn.

BOR...having trouble reading again?

Did you even bother to read in post my post where I went out of my way to say that Dontae is a great kid by all accounts.

and yes...less than 24 hours after signing day I think the new information about Dwight Smith...the guy who chose the college for Dontae....was quite interesting.

If you don't care about the information...just shut up and move to the next post.
