Why don't we schedule a game against LSU?

Can't DRad pull some strings? Is it us or them? Are we both just booked? I can't believe this hasn't happened yet. I understand neither team wanting to risk a loss, but come on...

A home season opener against LSU would be just as electric as ND in 06 IMO.

We haven't been past Alabama for a non-bowl game in a Looonng time IIRC.

Wouldn't mind playing them though...i have a lot of LSU fan friends that like to give me sh*t for being an ACC guy.

They think they're better than us. SEC Elite vs. ACC Second tier. You've got to bee kidding.

They just don't want an ass whooping on their schedule and that's why they refuse to play us.

I seem to remember going to Provo, Utah to watch us play BYU a few years ago (Reggie's freshman year), so I wouldn't say its a loooong time since we went further than Bama for a non-bowl game.

Why in the world would we want to schedule one of the top teams in the nation when we already have U[sic]GA on the schedule and have a difficult conference slate? Miss State is good as a schedule strength builder, and maybe Louisville or some other mid-tier opponent. We brought Paul Johnson in here to win championships, not to play exciting games. We could have stuck with Chan if we wanted that. Winning a championship takes an overall program effort, and that includes making smart schedules.

You act like LSU doesn't schedule teams it thinks it is better than...

I'd rather see LSU than gardner-webb, wouldn't you?

And PJ is here to put butts in the seats, first and foremost, then win.

No, I wouldn't. Especially not this year, and probably not any year in the future either. Obviously we can't keep scheduling two 1-AA teams a year, but we were only put in that situation because of a late pullout, which won't usually happen. Johnson is here to win and foremost. That's the only way he'll put butts in seats, because he isn't really charismatic and his offense isn't exactly high flying. Our OOC schedule will never be considered weak because we will always have U[sic]GA, and our conference schedule strength will always be good enough with Clemson, VT, and Miami/UNC. No reason to go out and schedule another national powerhouse.

That's not meant to be a knock against Chan, but rather a commentary on the overall attitude/goal of the program. We were always competitive, and we played right with the top teams in the nation. It could never be said that our games weren't exciting to go to. However, that's not what we want. We want to win a title, and that involves not only fielding a good and well coached team but also making a smart schedule.

Not to bust your bubble or anything but most people considered us a boring team while under Chan. I even heard commentaters comment on how boring our offense was last year. We may have kept games close and competitive but people considered us a boring team to watch because we couldn't score points.

I'd like to see an LSU game, but an Alabama game has to come first, I think. LSU is a bit of a step down, tradition wise. LSU would need to be timed with a "rise-of-the-program" thing, sort of how Notre Dame in 06 turned out to be.

That's cause Chan carries himself around as if he's on Prozac. And that was reflected in our team. That was always my biggest criticizm. He never seemed to have that passion and fire in the belly that is so important at getting players motivated.

I can't honestly say right now whether or not Coach Johnson will have better results. But, he will get our players fired up and motivated and act like he gives a damn. That makes him a better fit, regardless.

We have Alabama scheduled...

I for one would love to see us playing against LSU. But then I'd like us scheduling Tenn, Fla, SC, Ole Miss, ALA too.
Hey, if you want to win the respect from the neighbors, then whip the neighbors. How can we get the respect we want by playing Jax St, Troy etc?
Yes, these schools may have moved up and improved, but for my part, I'd rather be back playing these others.
Besides all that, if we were to lose to one of these schools like Mich did to App St, .........................God forbid.

Mr. Ro-Mega-Jacket, we must first see how we perform this triple option business. THEN, Mr. Ro-Mega-Jacket, we can schedule some big boys and maybe get our asses kicked a few times.

THEN, Mr. Ro-Mega-Jacket, when we have become a national perennial powerhouse...we will win them all. We will leave the ACC. We will ONLY schedule teams from the preseason top 25. We will win them all.

That, Mr. Ro-Mega-Jacket, is how it will be. The time will come grasshoppah. Be patient.

For one thing, LSU is not interested in home and home with anyone OOC. The top programs don't get to be top programs by scheduling cool matchups for the fans. The top programs play in top conferences for competition and try to stack the odds for the remaining games.

LSU OOC for 2008:

Appalachian State
Troy
North Texas

All will be played in Baton Rouge.

I would consider playing home-and-home with LSU AFTER we get our feet wet with this new coach and new scheme. But I will bet Les Miles would want NO PART of it.

I am not interested in playing LSU @ LSU without a return match to put ourselves in the company of Troy, etc.

LSU is actually a bad example here because they have a stupidly easy OOC schedule. There are top tier programs that have good schedules, though.
  • Southern Cal plays @Virginia, Ohio State, and Notre Dame this year.
  • Tennessee has shown in recent years it's one of the few SEC teams willing to travel. They concluded their home-and-home with Cal last year and will play @UCLA this year.
  • Georgia is actually bothering to travel for an OCC game (first time since 1965) this year with a contest @Arizona State.
  • While Colorado is not "top tier", they're not a cupcake either, and they have FSU and West Virginia on their schedule this year.
  • Speaking of WVU, they play @Auburn.
While these are probably the cream of the crop of OOC scheduling this year, LSU's OOC is still way below average and easily the worst OOC schedule of any SEC team this year.
