1. The "fire" he has about beating UGA and the understanding of how important it is to alumni. From what i have heard at the AA, seen in the weight room, and read in the paper, it is apparent that UGA is an emphasis much more so than it has been since 2002.

2. He is bringing back the discipline, and toughness. No whiners, babies, all about the team. He works them hard in the off season and now in camp.

The fire P.J. has in his belly to beat Ugag is close to or equal to that fire Spurrier has always had...I know you are a big Oleary man, but he didn't have the fire that P.J. has to beat Ugag...With Ross and Oleary combined will not equal the fire and will P.J. will show in beating Ugag...I think we now finally have our Spurrier...He refuses to lose and has hated Ugag since his days at GSU....He never lost to his arch rival Army while at Navy also..

well considering that i have been around GOL's prep for UGA 1st hand 4 times, I dont know how you could state that he didnt have the fire for UGA? I really wasnt trying to bring GOL into it as he has been gone quite awhile. He did beat UGA 3 in a row, 1st time since Dodd. I like anybody who can beat UGA, I hope PJ does beat UGA 3,4,5 in a row! Lastly, as far as being a "big O'Leary man", you probably would be as well if he had done for you what he did for me. THats the only way I can judge a man...

Nate,

Didn't mean to offend you...I liked Oleary, but didn't like the way he prepared our team for Ugag that last year he was here (As he had his sights on the Notre Dame job) and I grew tired of his non=committment to Defense and letting go and bringing in a REAL DC. I also grew tired of his excuse of not being able to attract the very best Dlineman to GT.. (Even Belue yesterday indicated that we just might have the deepest DL in the nation, not just the ACC) we can give Chan credit for this...even though he did not have the fire we need here to beat Ugag and get to that next level...These are just a few things I didn't like about Oleary...I liked the man personally though..

Sorry for the soapbox though, my main point IS, that P.J. will make beating Ugag a bigger priority than anyone we have had as coach did...bank on it...

I'm going as far as saying, We beat ugag this year...They wont know what hits them this year..It will be a whole new deal to them...They cannot possibly prepare for what we will throw at them that last game...This offense should (If Nesbitt stays healthy) be clicking on all cylinders by late November and P.J. will have our guys sky high for that game...I for one have not bought into all this Ugag love and hype this year...I agree with the guests on 680 radio this past Tuesday on the Cowherd show, Ugag will not be in the top 10 at seasons end, they are NOT U.S.C., Ohio state or L.S.U. They are wannabes that had a bunch of people jump on their bandwagon after the thumping of a vastly overated Hawaii team...Ugag's schedule has 3 to 4 losses staring at them...

1gt, have you ever spoken with either CPJ or GOL in person about how they feel about UGA? i bet if you told GOL that he didnt have the fire in his belly to want to beat them, that he would give you his most diparaging smirk and maybe even punch you in the face. what a ridiculous statement! that guy would have traded his mother to beat them..

the internet, home of random musings presented as fact. what a load of horse ****!

Yes I have...I know he wanted badly to beat Ugag..But that last game with (His attention was focused on the Notre Dame job) ugag, it hurt us...

My main point IS....P.J. will have more of a fire in his belly and a swagger similiar to Spurrier about beating em.....More so than Oleary or Ross...Partly because of his long residency here while at Gsu and dislike of ugag and because he is the ultimate competitor as Spurrier and by that ugag game he would have had it..with all these local journalism ugagers choking on UGA...

Hiring P.J. was just like hiring a former Gt alum to coach us (He understands the importance of the game..With a definite fire in his belly to not only beat Ugag, but to beat them bad).. also added into the equation he is like Spurrier (an offensive genius and a fierce competitor)

another reason i love paul johnson... he has some fire in him and doesn't mind putting these idiotic reporters in place a quote from an AP article about nesbitt's injury...

"You get hit in football," the Yellow Jackets' first-year head coach said. "We've always practiced that way for 28 years, and I can honestly tell you I have never lost a quarterback in practice. We haven't lost that many in games, either, not to that. We've had guys tear their knee up or something like that. I think if you went back and looked at it, you'd find dropback (quarterbacks) get hit a hell of lot harder than these guys."

then after he got really mad at the continuous idiotic questioning

"You guys crack me up," he said. "We've practiced 17 days and we haven't had a quarterback miss a day of practice. A guy gets a bruise on his shoulder, and we're going to change the way we practice? 'How does Georgia practice? They've lost a bunch of guys, haven't they?' "

very niiice

FWIW, Rumor has it that no one in the AA at UCF is allowed to wear RED, just like his tenure at GTAA

ok, TIME OUT, we are going to settle this thing RIGHT NOW.. where is that Vaitekunas kid???

outside.jpg

maybe we should meet outside for a few minutes if you doubt my "fire" 'cause I'm about to LIGHT YOU UP!

sad.jpg

its actually sad that people could possibly believe that i didnt have "the fire"! i beat them puppies 3 in a row, that's unheard of, but one poster apparently knows me better.

George

George O"Leary had quite a bit of fire in his belly to beat UGA. At least according to his resume anyway.

(if I didn't say it someone else would've)

A lot of hot air !!!!

3 years in a row....I guess some fans feel like that is the ceiling for our program...:wow:

Re: George

At this point, one would be a start

I will agree with you on that one....

I still think there is a lot of GT fans (Buck was hitting on this ) that put a very low ceiling on our program...

Ugag has a 7 game win streak on us...It is time we do that, 7 in a row over them....Oleary did break a long drought since Dodd in getting us to a 3 game streak...We can and should expect more with P.J. or any coach in the future we have...I guarantee you P.J. is thinking this way...What was it in a row over Army his arch rival at Navy? 7 or 8 I think...

We didn't beat UGAG the last 4 years for two reasons:

1. Stupid play calling.
2. Running out of gas in the 4th.

Both are coaching issues.

'nuff said.

I agree, but will add a couple of more reasons:

3. We need a refuse to lose attitude, that I think P.J. can instill. An expectation to win.

4. We need a mental and physical toughness to us. We are as Pat Dye told Ugag "Are you man enough" He called them out...I feel we were not tough enough the last few years. P.J. is instilling that physical toughness in us right now. 1's against 1's in practice and scrimmages and no special treatment for our QB's in practice. They take the hit like anyone else. We can't underestimate the effect this will have on our team...I don't think any other major program practices like this. I know Ugag doesn't. I guarantee they will never out physical us in a game anymore.

One of the first things P.J. said when he saw our 1st practice last spring, was, that we needed to get a lot tougher..We were too soft...
We will be tough as nails from here on out. :fingersx:

What used to kill me about the UGa games under Gailey is that I knew Tenuta would have a brilliant, well-designed, suffocating defensive game plan that his players executed to perfection for 60 minutes.

I also knew that Gailey would have no game plan and his offense would have no earthly idea how to put two first downs together.

If I live to be 100 I hope I never see that again.

It goes farther than "fire in their belly." Ron Zook had plenty of fire in his belly, with all the headbutting vending machines and such. The difference is Spurrier and, IMO, PJ join their fire with good, intense coaching to get players to execute well.

I hate to remind people of this, but perhaps GOL could have coached Joe Burns better to stay inbounds. He made some key coaching errors in his tenure and the '98 defense still baffles me.

Chan had more experience and had better decision-making IMO. However, he had a pro-coach CEO mentality which hurt recruiting and motivating players.

PJ looks like he has both great technical and motivational skill. Hopefully he can emulate Spurrier's success.

Since this thread was about PJ and positive in nature, its funny to see the GOL naysayers come piling on when it wasnt even the topic this thread was started about...
You mentioned the 98 team that finished 10-2 and ninth in the country?
the 1st 10 win season since 1990 and none since right?

Good enough to win is good enough usually
