1gt, have you ever spoken with either CPJ or GOL in person about how they feel about UGA? i bet if you told GOL that he didnt have the fire in his belly to want to beat them, that he would give you his most diparaging smirk and maybe even punch you in the face.
Buzzczar...
Yes I have...I know he wanted badly to beat Ugag..But that last game with (His attention was focused on the Notre Dame job) ugag, it hurt us...
My main point IS....P.J. will have more of a fire in his belly and a swagger similiar to Spurrier about beating em.....More so than Oleary or Ross...Partly because of his long residency here while at Gsu and dislike of ugag and because he is the ultimate competitor as Spurrier and by that ugag game he would have had it..with all these local journalism ugagers choking on UGA...
Hiring P.J. was just like hiring a former Gt alum to coach us (He understands the importance of the game..With a definite fire in his belly to not only beat Ugag, but to beat them bad).. also added into the equation he is like Spurrier (an offensive genius and a fierce competitor)
It goes farther than "fire in their belly." Ron Zook had plenty of fire in his belly, with all the headbutting vending machines and such. The difference is Spurrier and, IMO, PJ join their fire with good, intense coaching to get players to execute well.
I hate to remind people of this, but perhaps GOL could have coached Joe Burns better to stay inbounds. He made some key coaching errors in his tenure and the '98 defense still baffles me.
Chan had more experience and had better decision-making IMO. However, he had a pro-coach CEO mentality which hurt recruiting and motivating players.
PJ looks like he has both great technical and motivational skill. Hopefully he can emulate Spurrier's success.
