The ability for the coach to pay top dollar for the best assistants is the difference. I have no idea what Miami pays, but don't Alabama and Clemson have the most and highest paid assistants?

I thought I remember reading somewhere that their facilities are outdated. Also, and this is just my opinion, their successful coaches of the past were more aggressive recruiters, essentially building a recruiting wall around south Florida that no longer exists.

You know what else is wild is the places that these seismic movements start like urban at Utah and the air raid somewhere in Texas high school. That went thru UK with Mumme and Tex Tech with the pirate etc etc. didn’t that echo into Cutcliffe? He’s done an unbelievable job at Puke. It really is lightning in a bottle.

    I’m drunk.

Why can’t Geoff Collins be next. He’s got a unique approach. He’s coaching with what I think is real desire and dedication. Can you talk yourself into success? With ATL as your backdrop and a stellar education?

I believe that we will win.

Mark Richt was able to pull in a top 5 Class there. I think it’s def part of it but not as simple as they can’t cheat.

Winning today takes a very organized discipline organization, not sure they have that. Don't know a lot about the University of Miami but just from things I have heard being discipline there would take a lot. Just my opinion

Why were they great in the first place?

I remember in the late 70's they played Oklahoma really close and I remember seeing a report saying in so many words "Look at this no name team almost shocking Oklahoma". I also remember learning Ted Hendricks played there before that and thinking, "That's a real no name school to come from."

Then they are great for about 20 years or maybe a little more and it is "How is this all time great program so down now?"

Maybe they are just reverting to form. They were worse than they are now for all the years they played before 1980.

People don’t realize Miami has more in common with Emory and Tulane than it does with Florida and Alabama.

100% agreement. HC's job is to recruit well and surround himself with dynamite assistants. Between Thacker and Brent Key, I think we can be in great shape for a long time, as long as we pay them enough to stay home.

College football is about building an efficient system that can take in new recruits each year, integrate them, and put a cohesive product out on the field. You need great coaches from top to bottom with everyone on the same page, and you need to experiment with what works -- each school has unique aspects which need to be taken into consideration. Building this takes time.

Miami has had four head coaches in the past twelve years. That is simply not the way to build a program. Maybe you can get lucky and catch the "lightning in a bottle" that everyone is mentioning, but the odds are heavily against you.

I'm guessing Miami doesnt have the financial backing it once had so most that incredible talent within 50 miles of campus flows northward to the SEC bagmen. There's still plenty left over for Da U after the Bamas of the world skimmed off the top (can't blame any kids for taking the $$$) but Miami just isn't at its historical elite-level talent at the skill positions. They've also been doomed by very bad QB recruiting. They still have a very good defense and NFL level players there but they just cant get over the hump on the offensive side of the ball.

Don't forget the stunt Diaz and company pulled at an F$U recruiting event earlier this year. Can't recall the details but basically, Miami "crashed" an F$U recruiting event in a hollow attempt to bring back some swag. The problem is that nobody remembers or cares about the swag Miami used to have - the program has no identity - they are just another program and they can't face it.

If Miami had stolen away Wake’s coach, the entire Coastal would be screwed by year 3.

And the ACCCG would look like a Big12 game on steroids. O/U of 100

Good point. Brad Kaaya is their best QB over the past 15 years. That speaks volumes, especially when you look at the QB talent FSU has had during that same span.

and it is all about the head coach

Make the right choice with head coach and everything else can fall into place

You can have everything else and lack a good head coach and you will never get there

Miami may never be back. GT will own the Coastal 3 years from now. Win our games. Beat UGAg. Win ACCC. Go to playoffs.

For anyone thinking this is a pipe dream, we almost pulled that off in 2014 with much less talent and depth overall than we will have by 2021-22. I imagine if Waller was on our current team, Shaq, maybe JT5 we might be sitting at one loss right now.
We are going to get much better. We have good talent on the team now, but almost no depth, especially on the lines
