Why is Everybody So Mad? The Art of Mismanaging Expectations

It was true then, and it's even more true now. Why is that "whining"?

Complaining once (or even a few times) is a gripe.

Incessant complaints about the same thing is "Whining".

Re: The opinion itself: I get it and don't disagree. Clown Coach has done a horrible job so far.

Do we need to have daily reminders of this though?

Yes. We have to say this every day until Collins is gone. If we quit complaining and keep contributing, nothing will ever change. We have given Collins and Stansbury three years to improve, and they keep reaching new low points.

This is the best post I have ever read on here.

You know what makes me mad? After this utterly discouraging season, the Georgia Tech social media machine in in overdrive, sending out self congratulatory fund raising messages almost every day.

They are not fooling many people any more. Thank you for doing the work to put that post together. If I knew how, I would send it to Stansbury every time I get something from his "department."
You're right. We shouldn't be sending positive messages trying to raise funds. We should be as negative as possible and try to raise funds

The Georgia Tech athletic department does not deserve any funds until it shows it can be responsible with them. Giving money to Stansbury so he can keep "his man" is the worst thing you could do for Georgia Tech. Stansbury and Collins don't give a damn about what we think, but they do care about what we give. Not giving is the only way to communicate with them.

Great read and 100% spot on IMHO!

Entering 2022, I have one piece of wisdom for Todd Stansbury and Geoff Collins: You can’t get to where you want to go without being honest about where you are.

Overpromising and underdelivering has raised the ire of the fanbase

Geoff Collins on August 6th:

Hm. Then why did he say that exact same thing December 15th? What exactly does it mean that the coach said the same thing about changing his focus from culture and branding to football before the season started and after it came to its desultory ending?

Here are the season-sending PFF Grades for the 9 guys who played significant snaps on the offensive line this season: 63.7, 55.9, 37.6, 56.2, 61.4, 64.3, 46.0, 68.0, and 55.9. Either the recruiting, the development, or both are simply not in a really good spot.

This player made 6 tackles all year, none for a loss.

Geoff Collins on August 16th

These two players ended the year with 55.3 and 62.3 season-long PFF grades.

All season, we heard about how many communication and trust issues there were on the backend. Putting the cherry on top: Georgia Tech ended the season ranked 130th in EPA/pass allowed and Opponent Pass Efficiency Rating.

See above.

In the first two years of the Collins era, the defense finished 71st and 58th in SP+. In 2021, that sunk all the way to 102nd. They weren’t elite before, and they certainly weren’t better this year.

Geoff Collins on August 24th

He finished the year 0/4 from 40+ yards, topping out with a 37 yard make.

Geoff Collins on August 31st

He had 6 tackles all year, none for a loss.

Those “really successful Temple offenses” finished 90th and 76th in Offensive SP+ in 2017 and 2018.

Geoff Collins on September 4th

Geoff Collins on November 9th

Todd Stansbury on November 29th

Apparently, Collins and Stansbury got a hold of a week by week look at GT’s ranking in the Binion Index and thought higher was better. That’s the only way you could convince yourself that progress was happening over the course of the season.

Geoff Collins on November 6th

This was his explanation following a game in which Miami had a 21% success rate advantage.

Geoff Collins on November 13th

Boston College’s early downs success rate was equal to its third down success rate. Phil Jurkovec averaged more than 1.0 EPA/dropback on 23 dropbacks.

Todd Stansbury on November 29th

Technically, that was true at the time. But citing it as a reason for keeping the coach for another season then requires revisiting if it is no longer true. Where do things sit as of today? GT ranks 41st, and that still includes the current top commit Janiran Bonner, who surprisingly didn’t sign on Wednesday and now almost certainly will sign elsewhere. GT will fall to about 50th without him.

Geoff Collins on December 15th

He’s a 3 Star and is the 422nd ranked player in the country. That’s a fine player, but it’s not one of the highest recruited guys in the country.

Something has gone very wrong then, as these three years at GT have produced defensive SP+ ranks of 72nd, 58th, and 102nd.

Collins took over a team that had been the 28th ranked team in SP+ in 2016. Temple proceeded to finish 71st and 60th in his two years at the helm.

I’m mad. A whole lot of other GT fans - from the most influential boosters to the most invisible sidewalk fans - are mad, too. And the more I think about it, the more the anger has risen proportionally to the level of overpromising that has come from the mouths of the Head Coach and the Athletic Director.

I have always equated CGC to a used car salesman. After reading this I realized it is worse. Coach is so full of öööö you cannot believe anything he says. Dude should just STFU and stop blowing smoke up our asses.

If you don't want to participate until Collins is gone then öööö off already.

Not contributing to GTAA while Collins is here, but saying we will contribute as soon as Collins is gone, is the best way to help Tech sports. As for you, you have mastered the art of being vulgar and offensive, but you still have no idea how to make sense.

To many people on here are obviously in an abusive relationship they will not leave:

* feeling helpless, cannot leave him & that the bad behavior is their fault not his. GT is too hard, we haven’t given him enough resources.
* feel embarrassed or fear being judged/ stigmatized by other college football fans so they want to avoid any discussions about GT football & how bad we’ve become
* love CGC and believe he will change. He just needs more time.
* deny anything is wrong with CGC and make excuses for him. Again, it’s not him it’s us.
* loyalty or love of GT is preventing them from kicking him to the curb. We have to stand by our man. He’s a GT man after all.
* believe that CGC is very powerful & knowledgeable. He knows what to do, been very successful elsewhere.
* want to avoid discussing the issues with CGC. If you avoid the problems, they will go away.

They’re now in the honeymoon phase. The perpetrator is feeling remorse & trying to win back their trust & affection. The abused idolize him, see only the good side and make prolific excuses for the bad behavior.

A few more black eyes, a broken nose and a few more choke outs and they might be ready to cut the ties.

If our clown is going to say things that are simply untrue or nonsensical,
then it's good that some writer will address the BS to hold his mouth accountable.
(the writers at his pressers sure don't) This article is a good start.
We need this con man gone.
Well, douchebag, you are gonna have to wait. He's going nowhere and will be our coach for next season. Now go öööö yourself

No. It has been made clear we DO NOT HAVE the funds to fire a HC and hire a new coach. It isn't happening. You can post your Unibomber like manifestos all you like, but he is our 2022 coach.

A couple of weeks ago, a member of the athletics board posted on FB that they did indeed have the money, but for reasons he never specified, decided not to fire him. He added in a response to me later that even he doesn't like Collins. But he still wouldn't say why they made the decision they did. Bradley said a few weeks back, that it wouldn't surprise him if Collins is gone before spring practice. We shall see.

There's a lot of advanced statistical jargon in this post that the author should not assume his audience understands. "Miami had a 21% success rate advantage"?

It's a commonly used stat on their website and part of the weekly advanced stat review. Something like 6 yards or more on first down, 3 or more on second, and getting a first on third and fourth. Just a rough way to average success that's more granular than points on a drive.

Day 1: I awoke to Geoff Collins banging my mom against the headboards of her fine mahogany bed
Day 2: Geoff Collins kicked my dog
Day 3: My peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch had a bite taken out of it. I suspect it was Geoff Collins.
.
.
Day 456: I keep asking Geoff Collins questions during his press conferences but the video doesn't answer back. Does he not listen to me?
.
.
Day 666: I found a tuft of Geoff Collins' hair and put it in a doll. I call if Jeff and yell at it
.
.
Day 1000: My life is awful, thanks for nothing Geoff Collins.
.
.
.
Day 1200: GEOFF. COLLINS. REEEEEE

My understanding is they had almost the entire buyout ready (somewhere at $9M plus). But TStan didn't want to pull the trigger and didn't/couldn't/wouldn't negotiate with Collins or his agent for a reduced buyout.
