It was a loss. A bad loss. They happen.

Raise your hand if you truly thought GT would go undefeated in 2009? Didn't think so.

This team clearly has a long way to go. But we still have a chance to click. In all my preseason ponderings I figured GT would lose 1 between Clem, Miami, and UNC. Well we did. Now we just have to stomp UNC.

This is the ACC. The teams that go to the championship almost never have less than 2 ACC losses. Miami is going to Blacksburg against a strong VT. They probably drop 2-3 between VT, Clemson, UNC, and Wake Forest.

GT loses to FSU and Miami.
VT loses to GT and NC State.
Miami loses to VT and UNC.

GT goes to the ACC championship game.

Its still on the table. You could come up with a number of these scenarios.

Even if GT doesn't sniff the ACC championship I will be happy with the same performance as last season with a bowl win. Beat UGAy, get 10 wins, and win a bowl game sounds like a very successful season to me. Sets us up for a great 2010 season.

And it really would be a good thing if Dwyer, Burnett, Morgan, and Thomas stay for their senior years. Imagine that team with an o-line made of PJs recruits and look at all the talent we are bringing in on D next season. Next year's D-line won't even resemble this years. Teams will not be able to afford to double team Morgan anymore.

I still think the future looks bright for us, we just have to have patience. PJ had the best record of any first year coach at GT ever. Thats quite the accomplishment and I think we can improve on it this year.

We've played six straight quarters of piss poor football. With a non-existant defense and a good offense, we should be engaging in Joe Hamilton type shootouts.

While I agree that people shouldn't be freaking out, and I also agree that a 2 loss team still has a good shot at getting to the ACC championship game, I think the reason so many people is panicking, is the way we have looked in our first three games and the fact that if we can only 'get 2 losses', it's better to get your first one a little later than your second ACC game of the season.

We've got 6 more ACC teams to go, and can now only 'afford' to lose one. That's going to be a TOUGH TOUGH haul.

Why is everyone freaking out?

1) Because we got beat in every facet of the game

"We pretty much got beat in every facet of the game," Johnson said.

2) Because evidently the U is back and they have sixth-year seniors.

"Winning those first two games on national TV, all the doubt is turning into belief," said Moncur, a sixth-year senior. "They know the U is back."

In answer to the OP's question, it's because our team was talked up in the off season. People said we were way better than last year. When we see our team playing worse than last year, people get upset. Especially when they are told we will be better than last year.

Don't worry. They are staying for their senior years.

I'm raising my hand.

Stoopid freaking penalties. Dumbass abandonment of the TO. Ineffectual operation thereof. Wallflower defense. Kicker that you can't count on 'cept to make a tackle when they've got the ball and are running the other way?!

I'm with ya. We've got TOO MANY Optimists on this site (sarcasm)

Seriously, most of them that are jumping ship have never played the game and instead spent their young adult life finding "cheat codes to Zelda" or "Contra" in their bed room

That's the only problem I have with a lot of people that call themselves Tech Fans. They just like' Tech for the point of it but have little to no grasp of how the game is played.

Those are the fans that actually went to Georgia Tech! They'll get made fun of at work regardless if they support the team or not.

LOL....no argument here. Don't get me wrong there are some albeit a select few that actually understand the game.

I didn't go to Tech (although I did get in) I was having too much fun elsewhere.

You're so melodramatic. Who's jumping ship? This is a freaking message board. Can we not talk about how bad the team looked last night?

Not so much freaking out; just severely disappointed so far. I've been wanting to see our offense with supposedly so many new weapons come out with guns blazing since our loss to LSU on Jan 1st. I apparently mistakenly bought into the idea that our offense would be "light-years" better. The only improvement I've seen with our team has been special teams. I guess I'll take whatever I can at this point.

Defense... okay, so we lost 3 starters on the line to the NFL and a corner in Jahi. Cool. The three guys that are new on the line, let's give them time to adjust. Secondary is having some major issues right now. It looks like our corners are getting really confused. Jerrard, bless his heart, was attacked over and over again and was left to fend everything off himself. Coaches really didn't help him out any by making some adjustments so someone else could have his back if needed.

Sure, our d-line isn't getting the pass rush but for a lot of Miami's deep passes, the receiver didn't have a defender within 5 yards of them. It's not like the Miami receivers finished their route and started to try to get open. One deep pass that turned into a TD looked like we were in Cover-2 and the receiver just went right in between.

Offense... we actually return 10 out of 11 starters on offense from at the end of last year. Andrew Gardner was injured and really didn't play at all in the second half of the season. David Brown graduated. Why does it look like our offense regressed? The mesh looks very jagged this year. I used to lose track of the ball a lot last year. A-back blocking sucks and that's why we're having trouble getting pitches and tosses past the line of scrimmage. How many times do we need to see the same players miss the same blocks before we are allowed to say "oh well, better luck next time!" ?

Raise your hand if you thought we would get annihilated by Miami. Didn't think so.

The point is regardless of what anyone thought our record would be, Miami was picked to be a "W" by most knowledgeable Tech followers (altho that term seems a little oxymoronic today than previously). Additionally, unless Miami is really a top five or six BCS caliber team, which is possible I guess, then we had weaknesses exposed that will haunt us if not immediately corrected. And some of our problems MAY be uncorrectable at this point. That is why this Tech fan is freaking out.

No, I didn't necessarily see UM as a W. I could see an L --but not a big, ugly, stinky, lay-an-egg-on-ESPN L like we witnessed last night.

I expected losses,
But I thought they would be in a shoot out, because our offense was going to be so good.
Three bad games, and one loss I guess isn't so bad, but one was against JSU, and one we barely escaped
People are freaking out because of the play. Even if we had won (impossible), and played the same, people would still be freaking out because the blocking was HORRIFIC.
And the pressure on the QB on defense? haha.

It has a lot less to do with the loss itself than it does with us seeming to get exposed in so many facets of the game. Some of these issues, such as wearing down quickly and playing little to no defense are becoming reoccuring themes with this team. Obviously we've seen Tech make huge turnarounds from one game to the next (both good and bad) under PJ, so there's reason to believe we can and will play better. It just seems like we currently have many more issues as a team than it appeared we would heading into the season.
