Why is reggie on the football mural?

I still remember that Vandy game like it was yesterday. Hollings made everyone else on the field look like they were walking in wet concrete. And Reggie's game saving bootleg run... Wow. Even today.

I was very impressed.

The Hollings make everybody else look stupid slow was at home in '02. The Reggie overtime win was Reggie's freshman year in '03 at Vandy. Hollings was ineligible in '03.
Good memories regardless.

This post is pathetic.

Reggie was a four year starter who carried a winning record throughout his career while taking us to huge wins over Auburn, Miami, Clemson, VT, and others. He was snakebit in the UGA game for various reasons but its not right to discount the games we did win largely because of his heart and effort.

He never got adequate coaching IMHO and much of his talent and effort was wasted at times.

Oops. :o

Thanks for the correction. Good times.

My guess as to why Reggie is on the wall is that he became (technically) a professional football player, and that seems to be a common thread among those others listed.

Then I assume Eddie Lee Ivery, Pat Swilling, William Bell, Scott Sisson, Willie Clay and other pros are PROMINENTLY featured.

When you're named starting QB of a BCS conf team as a true freshman, fans' expectations about your abilities & performance soar through the roof. There was lots of 'Reggie is the next Joe Hamilton' hype back in 2003. He never lived up to expectations. But sub-par performance alone doesn't explain the ire he draws from so many GT fans. Reggie's poor performance was too often coupled with defensiveness, cockiness, and hot-headedness. When it came time to 'put up or shut up' ('05, '06), he too often failed the 'shut up' test after games where he hadn't 'put up'. In a nutshell, a lot of GT fans didn't like his attitude. A little humility at the right time would have gone a long way for Reggie. He's now in a class with Bill Lewis in that the mere mention of his name arouses the anger of so many GT fans. That's not going to change any time soon.

DeepSnap ....

You should say Jimmy Southard, not Jim Still !!

Only because He's my Dad.. Jim Still was a nice man.. He passed away right after the Gator Bowl Victory over Notre Dame ...

Thanks, John Southard, GT 33

As loathe as I am to come to Kyle's defense, no one in the stands threw more interceptions than touchdowns, nobody in the stands gave UGA (2006 game) as many points as yards that they produced. I'll concede that he was tough, and that he won more games than he lost. But 5 of those games that he lost meant a hell of a lot, to a hell of a lot of Tech fans. He was and always will be a polarizing figure.

What does that have to do with heart? I'm not defending Reggie's stats or his comments, but what do INT's and L's have to do with how much he wanted to win? He gave his all for 3 3/4 years. With the way the fanbase railed on him toward the end of his final year, I can't blame him for not caring anymore. Especially when those losses should be accredited to the coaches.
