Why Shouldn\'t We Beat UGA Next Year?...

Don't we have a good nucleus coming back and UGA will have a new QB. We'll have to play a good game like last night and eliminate the turnovers. I don't understand all this we don't have a chance anymore. I don't think they blew us out last night like 2002. I believe from hear on out it's anybody's ball game and we will win a few. I still think we need an offensive coordinator. I cannot figure out for the life of me why the offense came out sizzling last night than went into a shell. I guess turnovers and holding calls will do that to you.

I will give you one very good reason why I expect us not to win in Athens next year, REGGIE!! God bless the young man, but when the chips are down vs the leg humpers he has not only blinked once, not twice, but three times.

Turnovers, penalties on 2nd & 1 from the 8, QB sack at the most inopportune time, the combination of these really hindered GT's offensive productivity. The poor punt coverage was very damaging as well.

GT just made too many mistakes at key points in the ball game ...something you just cannot do and expect to come out with a win in a game where it was evident that the two teams were pretty much evenly matched.

Re: Why Shouldn\'t We Beat UGA Next Year?...

I'm not saying that we can't win, but they will have more talent than us and the QB thing wont be that big of an issue considering he would have played 10 games by the time we roll around. On defense we are replacing almost our entire secondary...Our best LB and our Best DL. However, I do expect us to keep it close, as we did this year, and hopefully be able to pull it out in the end, unlike this year. Our Offense needs to be much improves considering the talent we will bring back.

If we can't average 24 pts a game next year with CJ, Tashard, a 4th year starter at QB, and a better O-Line than we had this year, then we need to switch to a flip it around, trick play, misdirection offense the following season, because this crap we're doing now ain't working.

Re: Why Shouldn\'t We Beat UGA Next Year?...

On paper it appears to be impossible for us to be UGA. On paper we have well surpassed expectations. On paper we should have never beaten UM. On paper, we stink. On paper, we do NOT get the Crem-dela-crem recruit. On the football field, we do pretty good. On the field, we will dominate soon. I do believe this to be true.

I hope you're right. Paper is for wipping buttholes anyway

Re: Why Shouldn\'t We Beat UGA Next Year?...

Why should we have not beaten them this year?

Hasn't he had 10 games behind him EVERY time he played the dogs? And still, each time, his play was one of the major reasons we lost?

Re: Why Shouldn\'t We Beat UGA Next Year?...

We'll get 'em next year. Getting tired of saying that! Like the poll I saw on AJC.com---what's it going to take to win--new qb, new coach???

I dunno.... ask Navy what it will take to beat ND

maybe they should fire that loser of a coach they have.

Don't take this the wrong way, but GA has a few advantages right now. An adequate coach with the pick of the best players in the state.

GT will start beating UGA regularly as soon as Ga Seniors realize that the SEC is a has-been loser conference and the ACC is a more certain ticket to the pros. You watch. We will start picking off top recruits in state the next few years and the momentum will build.

The only way to thwart this is if we are cellar dwellers in the ACC. Kids would rather win at Louisville than get pummelled at UK. When UK was competitive they got the better recruits while UL took JUCOS and Props. They fired competitive coaches for various reasons and now they are in a serious hole.

Competitive is good enough, as competitive in the ACC will soon dominate the other conferences. I think Chan is capable of much more, but everyone can see he isn't 'capable' of less. That we should be able to agree on.

As much as I like to believe this (and believe me I do) I just don’t think it is possible for us to dominate without recruiting top players, and it‘s impossible to recruit top players with our current entrance requirements. The key to college sports is regeneration, every successful program is generally stacked with blue chippers that can step in after playing a year in the scout team and have a reasonable small transition period or no transition at all to replace the last all-everything that just graduated/left early for draft/not qualified/got convicted of possession/weapons/assault etc, and even the great programs dip every once in a while. I hate to agree with Braine’s comment last week about not consistently winning 9 games but given the structure of our school’s requirements it’s hard to disagree.

What are the odds that we dominate in the toughest division of arguably the toughest conference in the Nation when at least VT and Miami are recruiting the all worlds of this world? We have a lot of compensating factors to get us a Miami upset every now and then but its impossible to get an A game performance that compensates for our talent limitations every week.

VT is recruititng WHO? UVA has dominated them in

recruiting.

If we get a few kids like the 'two star' TE from Pennsylvania visiting next week we will continue to have 'horrible' recruits that continue to hang with, and often beat, anyone. The stats between the four star and the two star guys are almost negligible at this time.

I would think GT has a great chance at beating UGA

(and a lot of thoer teams) next year. Considering what players UGA loses and what players GT returns, it looks real good for GT.

Next year will be a true rebuilding year for UGA.

Re: VT is recruititng WHO? UVA has dominated them

I understand that we can hang on and beat anyone in the country but can we do it consistently. Right now we can win and even dominate at times, but to dominate consistently teams need to have depth and we just don't have it with the quality of recruits we get, there just aren't many kids out there that meet our academic criteria while meeting the talent criteria of the top programs they'll face in college. That leaves us with coaching and strength and conditioning as compensating factors and both of them take time for young kids to get used to.

I would say you underestimate our backups, but

based on special teams play you could be correct.

Of course VT (for one) uses starters on special teams so they may have 'depth problems' as well but might hide them better.

I expect a 'change' on special teams. Either coaches or philosophy or committment(i.e. play starters). So perhaps we will answer that question next year.

I base my thoughts that we do have depth on my opinion that we have replaced players extremely well on D, and even on O (other than OL). We replaced some good WRs, DBs, a great FB, and others from a 6-5 team and went 7-4 against a tougher schedule.

We will lose more this year than most, so perhaps this year will 'expose' us.

Re: Why Shouldn\'t We Beat UGA Next Year?...

why couldn't we beat uga THIS yr? same reasons

Honestly?

I don't think you actually care to hear a reasoned answer.

We do not have a good enough OLine to go with an average QB. A great OLine makes average QBs like Vick (MHO) look great. A youth dominated line is making Fridge look like he can't coach QBs.

Likewise, a great OL and/or a great RB makes an average OL look good. Is the line good at run blocking or is it PJ?

If this OL works very, very hard in the offseason, we will look good next year no matter who is our QB. Our OL has great potential with height and speed but they need more strength (not to be confused with weight). If they are strong and light, fine. If they have to add a lot of weight to get strong that's ok if they stay fast.

Anyway, we lost, IMHO, because their superior line made their average QB look better than our average QB.

I'm no expert, but I think (with admittedly inadequate research) that UGA will need to find a great QB to keep up their ~9-2 pattern because they look to have depth problems on the OL.

I have no reason to believe that they can beat Spurrier, Urban, or Tubberville regularly without a great QB. Perhaps they will find one. It is possible for sure.

He will be on campus next month.

Re: Honestly?

We've got an entire thread going right now wondering how we're going to beat UGAg. I think we have more to worry about right now-that is our own program. Can't worry about someone else! Yes, we need to beat UGA, but that is not going to help us win the ACC title game. I don't thing they(UGA) was too worried about us-they want to beat LSU. We need to learn how to beat the FSU, Miami, VT's regularily! Until then, we'll be short the great recruits!
