We lookin’ stylish…

One of these is not like the others....

That is some very interesting stuff.

Just looking at the GT row, this is surprising: we averaged 15 points in the first half (49th); 12.8 points in the 2nd half (77th) but are 33rd in yards per game at 427. I think that means our offense wasn't very efficient in terms of points/yards.

Also interesting that Colorado was the worst rushing team in the nation (70 yards/game). Interesting because Syracuse and Duke were almost as bad (93 & 97 ypg) yet Colorado, Syracuse and Duke all finished 9-3. Never in a zillion years would I have guessed that it was possible for 3 of the 10 worst rushing teams in the country to finish 9-3.

Looking at the GT defensive ranks, here is another big surprise: Our points-allowed in the first half rank is 28th (allowing an average of 10 points in the first half) - outstanding. But enough good news. Our points-allowed in the 2nd half rank is *gulp* 82nd (13.3 points allowed in the 2nd half). This suggests that the other guys are adjusting better than we are adjusting back in Q3 and Q4. Or we are getting tired or both.

One more calc that I ran that is a bit concerning is the difference between avg points allowed in the first half vs the 2nd half. For ex, if a team allows 14 points on average in the first half but 10 avg points in the 2nd half then that is a +4 point improvement. I ran this calc for 134 teams and unfortunately, we are nearly at the bottom (121st) - we allow 3.2 more points in the 2nd half than the first half. Of the 134 teams, about half allowed fewer points in the 2nd half and the other half more.

Points per possession is the stat that matters, not points per game.

Rush-heavy offenses tend to result in fewer possessions per game, hence fewer points per game. This fact misled people into thinking our offense wasn't good under Paul Johnson when our offensive efficiency was actually extremely high.

Funny that some of the handles on here who don’t want the CFP to modify the seeds guaranteeing a P4 Champion ranked ahead of a G5 champion a “bye” now have changed their tune.

Of the mythical Top 4, only ASU was worthy of the seed in the end once the games have been played.

Get rid of the Conference Champion auto “bye” rule and rank the teams correctly.

tOSU, ND have proven to be the Top 2 remaining.

This website has lots of good stats that are corrected for things like number of possessions & garbage possessions.

Our offensive possession efficiency is ranked #37:

Get rid of the BYE completely. Expand to 32 teams, start 2 weeks earlier. #1 seeds get highest-seed matchups.

March Madness? No. December Delirium!

Before last year an undefeated conference champion was also automatically included. But FSU's QB got hurt. Just like uGA's.
One thing is guaranteed at this point: whoever wins it this year wouldn’t have even been in the playoffs in any year prior to this year. I’d say that’s a good sign for us.

Not so sure. Boise and ASU wouldnt have been in top 4. Most likely Oregon, UGAg, ND, TX.
