I just read that R&R (Bagdad Bob) or (Koolaid Kid) over on the Hive is pushing Chris Hatcher....

All of us that have been banned over there ought to start the emailing to Drad right now...

:laugher:

Seriously I am behind Drad all the way..

But if R&R is behind and pushing Chris Hatcher...He goes down in my book...His experience at D1 coaching is lacking sorely, as an asst. much less head coach...

I thought he was an "air raid" guy, but it looks like he is basically a run>>>pass coach at GSU. Why would he be better than Paul Johnson?

Am I the only one who wants to see us utilize the spread option with our new HC?

I'm tired of this boring pro-style offense crap. We have the players to do it too I think. It's not gimmicky because the Gators won a National Championship using it so that argument is a crock.

He only had 1 year there - with left over option personel.

I will say this...he wins wherever he goes and has since he was 26 years old. I never have watched his teams or seen him speak though.

Valdosta St:
2000 10-2
2001 12-1
2002 14-1 AFCA-NCAA Natl Championship Runner-Up
2003 10-2
2004 13-1 AFCA-NCAA National Champions
2005 9-3
2006 8-2

GaSouthern:
2007 7-4 (after taking over a train wreck from VanGorder)

Total: 83-16

someone mentioned the OC at WVU as an "option", i believe it was herbstreit on Buck and Kincaid today. also, he mentioned the guy from Boise State. don't know either of their names but guys that are as dave braine said "flying under the radar"

After doing some research I am a Hatcher supporter as well. He fits alot of what we want:

1. Younger guy with open mind
2. Represents the institution he coaches at well and is good in front of the camera.
3. Surrounds himself with talented coordinatotors and position coaches.
4. Runs an exciting offense that will get people outside the Tech faithful in the stands.
5. He has head coach experience. I think this is more important than the level ala Tressel at Ohio State.
6. He just WINS baby.

He is a good candidate for us. It would exciting again at Grant Field. We have the athletes to run the Hatch attack. Keep Tenuta to run the defense and we got a good match.

Hard to believe I agree with those jack legs on the Hive who are now saying they won't renew their tickets if xyz is the coach. Hypocrites.

Petersen is at Boise state...I dont know if he has the ties in the South for recruiting though...Neither has Kelly up in Cincy...Both are great coaches. If we hire a guy that doesn't have strong ties here in the South...Recruiting takes a big hit...

Hatcher is a good match for us on a lot of levels. The only real question I have is whether he is willing to deal with the academic side of things.

If you don't want to deal with academics then you need to go to the pro's.

You should know what I mean. GT is academically alot different than GSU or Valdosta State and that has a very real impact on your recruiting strategy and facets of your program.

For what it is worth I was told by a GSU grad that Chris is in Macon tomorrow and then heads for Atlanta for a meeting Wed. morning. (wonder what that could be??) He claims he got that from a good source. Take it for what it is. I am not sure if he would be my first choice, but don't necessarily feel it would be a bad choice. I am just not sure if he has enough experience at this point. But to his credit he has done very well where ever he has coached. Guess we will wait and see.

I think we over emphasize this. At all schools you recruit who the administration will let you recruit and then you coach them up. I understand the concern, I just think it is not as different at GT as a lot of us think.

The div 1aa/2 recruiting strategy is different in that you have to wait on who the big boys recruit and then go after the leftovers.

I don't understand how some people can get so excited about Muschamp and the discount Hatcher. One has actually been a HC, albeit in a smaller program, I would venture to say the priciples of the game are still the same, besides the obvious like speed, talent, etc...but its all relative to the competition too.

Muschamp has done well, but done so under the wings of defensive minds like Tubby and Saban, it would be like getting excited about getting Spurrier's OC, if he had one that called the plays.

Okay, so the only mark against Hatcher in this thread, as near as I can tell, is that two guys on the Hive like him. That about the size of it?

I need better ammo than that if I'm going to go register FireHatcher.com.

Other than lack of Div1a experience, what's Hatcher's drawback?

I guess you could argue that his offense at VSU was eerily similar to that of Hal Mumme's passing attack that flopped at Kentucky, who was also coach at VSU. Although his heaving running offense at GSU this year suggests that he can mold his offense to the talent available.
