Will Haynes King Be A Heisman Candidate Next Year?

Losing to a 6-6 Vandy in a stupid bowl game isn’t exactly optimal for kicking off a Heisman campaign. No, nobody will remember it in a few weeks- but it sure ain’t going to generate a lot of early positive press.
I bet a lot more watched the uGA game though, and he was great then.

Given he has a great year, his chances depend on the distribution of preseason hype. There will be 3 or 4 at least hyped more than him to start, at least. If those guys are dominated by 1 or 2, then he only has to have those 2 eff up and he can make his way about even with everybody else and let it play out.

If the field is considered wide open then he can make up any deficit if he deserves to.

I don't think so. Also, do people still get all hyped about the Heisman? Well, at least the winner can be in the commercial.

Being pragmatic when answering this question is quite important. There are several factors against the likelihood of Haynes King, or any GT player for that matter, being in the Heisman conversation.

For all intents and purposes it has become a media-driven popularity contest.

Case in point, Travis Hunter won because of the hype around Colorado and Deion Sanders. It was also recognition for his two-way playing talent. However, a robust argument can be made for Jeanty. He really should have won it but being from Boise State impacted his winning. Similar handicap would apply to HK.

Bottom line, you have to not only be a very impactful player for your team, but also play for a large-market program or have some type of media-darling narrative. All 3 of those requirements must converge to win the Heisman trophy in today’s game.

I used to think the Heisman was a big deal.

Now, it's just another trophy for sale.

Travis Hunter wasn’t even the best football player on his team, let alone the country. He wasn’t the best receiver, not even one of the best, and he wasn’t the best DB, not even one of the best. But to your point, Deion hyped him up and espn was more than happy to oblige.

Not in the pre-season. I hope we don’t promote that this off season. Looking at some of the “too early” lists Manning, Nussmeier, Allar, Jennings, Leavitt, Sellers, Iamaleava, Lagway, Klubnik and Raiola are quarterbacks all mentioned ahead of him. But, that’s OK. Let him look great whipping Colorado, look great in big games with Clemson and Georgia, and let us win at least 9 games in the regular season, and he will be in New York.

Gonna say no. I think he should declare for the draft. Go ahead and give us Philo. HK can't go more than 12 yards downfield consistently. We are looking at 8 wins next season. Hell, if we keep sleepwalking through the first half of every game, we may not win 6. So tired of being amped for a game and watching our team either have no idea what is going on until after the half or giving a öööö until down 17.
