Will Muschamp

All the Texas folks I have spoken with would've rather taken Tenuta as DC.
So much for the opinions of "folks".
Most of the "folks" I talked with would have preferred Will Muschamp to Paul Johnson as coach at Georgia Tech--myself included.

He won't dumb down his defense. And we have not cornered the market on intelligence! Just because a kid doesn't come to Tech doesn't mean he's dumb. CJT will have more athletes at LSU and should put together some scary defensive packages.

Dude, we are talking about football players here. Defensive football players at that. Why are they playing defense in the first place? Because they could never remember the plays and the assignments on offense. I can't imagine any football defense in which intellect would trump speed, quickness, size and strength.

Then you don't know much about football!

*** Also nominated for dumbass post of the year!

I had to read your post twice just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I agree with RM...you do not know anything about football.

What qualifies as 'folks' to you? Every person I've talked with in person about the hire is excited about PJ, and nobody I've talked to in person was excited about Muschamp.

Also - offensive players responsibilities are to execute a play. Defensive responsibilities are to react to a play, and do different things depending on what the offense does. If anything, defense is harder than offense conceptually.

I certainly hope to never hear anything about this guy again until he commits some inevitable crime.

Can you spell Aundray Bruce?

:laugher: Good first post AlaJacket. We should call you Sponge Bob Back-Sass Pants. There was also an All-pro defense end for the Redskins who went back to school, back to elementary school that is, to learn how to read back in the 1980's; but I can't recall his name.

Despite these few isolated examples I don't subscribe to the theory that defensive players are less intelligent than offensive players. There have been very bright, and noticeably ignorant players on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

I think we completely agree. I mentioned him only as an example to say that intellect is important to play defense. His short time with the Falcons (after being their first round draft choice) proved that if you can't grasp the defense, you can have world class physical attributes, and still not be worth a crap.

Don't you dare bust on Dexter Manley. I grew up a Redskins fan. Dexter Manley, Dave Butz, and Charles Mann were one of the best DLine's in the NFL.

ain't bustin' on him. hell I called him out when he got suspended and had to play against him when they reinstated him when he played for Tampa bay, That was a long day.

Still dumb as dirt though, hopefully he has changed.
