FtfyFans can complain, it’s a free country. Especially when our team cant seem to put together consecutive good halves.
What are you talking about. I am one of the least cynical and most optimistic Tech fans. I like who we are (I don't want to change the school), I like our head coach, I like our team, and I don't think college athletics is that crooked or corrupt. I think we are a few bad breaks away from a great season. Every game is different--Duke beat us, but we easily could've beaten Miami, Tennessee, UVA. We are not a bad team! In 2014 our worst loss was to Duke too, but everyone considers 2014 a great season.
Anyway, I was fairly balanced for such an awful game:

You are a troll.
Game recognize game
Will our fans' constant negativity bury GT football in the long run?
GT fans are ignorant of who we are. Our stadium is okay, but not compared to anyone we recruit against. Our fans suck ass. Our facilities are below average. Our classes are hard. School is miserable. Ratio sucks. And our boosters aren't paying players under the table, or when they are, they get caught. We are the biggest collegiate sports lemon in the entire southeast USA. And when we finally find a coach who can take that completely shit scenario and go to 2 BCS bowls, we want to fire him.
I mean sure, have at it. But you have been warned. Without a coach that does things differently, we will be a team that does the same thing everybody else does, except with much worse players. Be careful what you wish for.
3 Conference Championship Games per decade is GT's ceiling. There are ways to raise that ceiling, but they are not by swapping coaches, they're systemic. If you want to elevate our success to the level of Stanford, here's how:
1) Find 300 million dollars to buy the land half the campus is on out from underneath the Georgia Board of Regents.
2) Go private, so any plans we have for academic expansion are not voted on by a board of UGA grads appointed by whoever the UGA governor is at the time.
3) Triple tuition. Convince season ticket holders somehow to eat a 150% price boost. Spend that on private movie theaters and water parks and whatnot for athletes. (Clemson)
4) Add a liberal arts program, a journalism school, a law school, and double enrollment.
5) Accept more women than men. Preferably cute ones.
6) Add majors and no-effort crip classes to stash athletes in. Use UNC's model, since apparently giving out free degrees is totally okay by the NCAA.
7) Don't give out grades below a B.
8) Get the big money boosters to coordinate pay-for-play like Auburn, Alabama, and Notre Dame do. The trick here, again as proven by the NCAA, is to just pay the parents instead of the kids. (Cam Newton)
So roll that out, and we'll have players who can go toe to toe with anyone on our schedule, and get us into the ACCCG around 50% of the time, and probably win 50/50 against UGA, maybe more, without having to have an eccentric tactical "do less with more" genius coach. Go hire someone who runs press conferences better, maybe with a car sales background like Dabo, and throw a million plus at coordinators and assistants.
The writing is on the wall for this, particularly if you're paying attention. GT had the #1 placekicker in the nation committed this year, and he bailed at the last second to go ride the pine for Saban right before he enrolled. Now we have some walkon engineering student trying to kick for us. With a merely above average kicker, we win Tennessee in regulation, we don't give up an 80 yard return vs Miami that led to a TD, don't give up a KO return for a TD versus Virginia, and the VT game isn't even close. 3 more wins and a top 25 ranking on one kid.
It is what it is. GT as an institution is not committed to being a top flight football program. We are squeezing as much as we can out of a situation that is not conducive to competing in the modern football landscape. And our fans have decided they don't like lemonade, and want to dump it down the drain and chew on lemons for a while. Well fine, be careful what you wish for. If we go down that road, I guess I'll have more free time on Saturdays in the fall.
We have about a 1 in 3 shot of winning that game. It's certainly possible, but not if it comes down to kicking, lol. With Harrison Butker on our team another year, I'd say it'd be a 50/50 shot.
But you're not seeing the larger issue with the GT fanbase. For a lot of people, which may include Matt, even a win over UGA won't matter. In football, everyone thinks they're destined for better things than they actually are, and everyone forgets that in any game there is another team who thinks the same thing they think, and there can only be one winner. So what happens is over the course of the years, more and more people finally decide that they're "Done with X Coach!" after missed short term expectations, eventually the coach gets fired, and then reality sinks in. Happened with Richt fairly recently, remember? Eventually people just want a change purely because they're fed up with X and Y and Z. They reach their mental limit, forget the good, focus on the bad, and make dumb decisions.
People also do that with marriages. Not sure if you've noticed.
So it's human nature. It's frustrating to me, but again it is what it is. Whenever you link your happiness to the actions of another (textbook definition of codependency) you funnel yourself into misery, since nobody is perfect. GT discussion boards had a term for these sorts of people during the Chan years. FOTM. "Fellowship Of The Miserable." These people show up in all fanbases - I'm sure you've seen them in UGA and Falcons fans, but they are really, really deeply ingrained in GT culture, because GT grads are taught that anyone who follows a specific process (engineering) will succeed at achieving their objectives. This is true professionally, and sometimes personally, but it's not true in sports because sports are zero sum.
Our facilities are improving. The ratio isn’t what it used to be.
Yes.
Here's something I posted on a friend's FB wall, who's on a #firecpj tirade right now:
Followed up with:
When a good friend of ours who's a Dwag and a Falcons Fan chimed in with "Win next saturday and it's all good, right?" I responded with this:
I can't even watch GT football with friends anymore, because so many of them are such miserable people. It's disgusting.
Plus eleventy-billion.Yes.
