Will Sims have a break out year?

I hope that Jeff Sims has made the dumb mistakes, due to youthfulness. I hope that he can turn into the QB that we thought he could be. However; now the question is this. Is there enough talent around him now? I think Sims will have a better season, stat wise. However; not sure you would call in a "break out" year. Open to hear other opinions on this.

He hasn't lasted a season yet and I think that's as big of a deal as anything. I expect the QB from Alabama to take over at some point due to injury and not relinquish the role. We don't have the TEs to implement Long's offense, so don't expect much different than we've seen to date for either QB. I expect us to be around 70th in offense. An improvement, but nothing to write home about.

I think Sims has flashed enough to show his ceiling is very high. The one thing I really want him to improve, though, is his accuracy. If he can work on this part of his game, I think he does make the big jump next season.

I think the new system will help him a lot with less emphasis on his running ability. I think he’ll continue to break big runs, but he’ll be much less of a feature back. That should help with injuries.

I’m also hoping our playcalling will be less predictable, which should help him as well. He has all the tools, he just needs some more (and honest) coaching. I don’t know if CDP ever called him out, but sometimes that is needed.

Didn’t he start every game in 2020?

I think what you've seen is what you get with Sims. He didn't show anything this year to make me think he won't flash brilliance only to make two or three critical errors that will end up costing his team dearly.

Sims improved from year 1 to year 2 in all aspects despite being slowed by injuries. If he makes similar improvements in year 3 he’ll be a really good qb.

I heard your mother was a big fan of the Long Weinke combo
Pretty sure you won the thread.

At least that’s what your mom said when we read the thread.

And, for the record, Sims has coaching now so look the F out - I really think he is going to be lethal.

The mistakes and inconsistencies by Sims are probably things you would see in any good quarterback recruit if they were forced into being the starter their first year in a FBS program. That has been compounded by the lack of a good OL which has resulted in a lot of rushed decision making and forced passing. I think he’ll overcome his limitations if he gets better protection this year. If he became a starter in year 3 or 4, as would be the case in most situations, maybe the fans would never realize what kind of maturation he went through.
