Will Tech Ever Match This Performance?

Here's one way to break out of an early-season slump. Nevada, 0-3 heading into its annual rivalry date with UNLV, rolled up 773 total yards -- including 559 rushing -- to beat the Rebels 63-28.

Okay, I doubt Tech will ever have that many rushing yards, simply because...well, I don't know why, that just seems implausible. What's the most yards you think Tech could ever run for? (Note: I'm talking about CPJ-led Tech. We may have had that many yards in the Cumberland game or the other blowouts in the late 1910s - take a look at the 1917 season LINK, and here is 1918 LINK.)

If we ever play a high octane offense like Houston or Texas Tech or more than likely someone who adopts their offensive philosophy, I bet we will. It would have to be one of those quick scoring shoot outs for us to put that many yards on the board.

To answer my own question: LINK

well I mean we almost hit the 500-yard mark against MSU... I think combined with those hail-mary passes and getting Dwyer on bigger run plays, we could possibly hit 600 yards... maybe if we played Army again...

besides, we've already beaten the score of that game (combined!) and set the standard so high that even if Florida were to play Marietta Middle School, it wouldn't be that bad...

I expect PJ to have a 700+ yard game in his tenure at GT.

You guys just don't understand where this team is headed, sure I drank the coolaid (sp?) back in 1998, but we are going to be bigger than I think many realize!

If you read the recap of the Navy-North Texas game, you see this quote by the Navy B-back:
"In a shootout, we feel comfortable," fullback Adam Campbell said. "I have a saying, 'When the leaves turn colors, watch out, because that's when our offense really starts getting rolling.' "

PJ has exceeded 600 total yards or 500 rushing yards a number of times.

Games are somewhat shorter under the current rules which means it will happen less often, but sooner or later we will see each of those single-game milestones on the Flats.

Also, take a look at the rushing averages by Navy:

Navy Rushing
Player------ CAR--YDS---AVG--TD---LG
S. White-----7----131---18.7---1----64
Z. Singleto--8----103---12.9---3----65
A. Ballard---13----87----6.7----1---16
E. Kettani---6-----74----12.3---1---49
J. Bryant----9-----57----6.3----1---14
K. KEnhada-6-----53----8.8----0----24
R. Campb---6-----44----7.3----1----21
T. Barnes---1-----24----24.0---0----24
-. Team-----1-----(1)---(1.0)--0-----0
Team-------57----572---10.0---8----65

The lowest average by a runner is 6.3 yards (and that player had 9 carries). Team average of 10? Yes please.

Other notes about the running game (because I am bored and have too much time on my hands):

Yards gained-----------#of carries

<=2-----------------------6 (including one kneel down)
3-5-----------------------17
6-10----------------------14
11-19----------------------9
20-39 ---------------------4
40-59 ---------------------1
>=60 ---------------------2

The median yards/carry was 7. This is absurd, maybe even more absurd than the fact I took 20 minutes to figure this out.
