And accepting a HC job at Tulane. After just two seasons.

As a Tech fan, I'm glad to say that without Fritz, I think Southern will be an easier match up next time we play them (2017?).

As a Southern grad, it's bizarre he's only stuck around for two seasons. I guess his coaching history clearly reflected his loyalty and we shouldn't have expected him to stick around very long. Not to mention, a large part of me feels like Southern is a much better job than Tulane. What can I say, I'm butt hurt.

Enjoy the heat, Fritz.

Really weird move. Unless he's getting paid a lot more at Tulane or just hates Statesboro, I don't get it. I would think GSU > Tulane pretty clearly in terms of the job itself.

New Orleans is better than South Georgia in everyway period.

Sure, you could argue that. But look at Tulane Football vs Georgia Southern football. That's what I'm getting at. In what way is Tulane better than Georgia Southern other than it's the next stepping stone to a 'big boy' school job, or better competition?

From what I've heard he only made ~$400K at Southern. No idea if there is truth to that.

Well let's see. Fritz was making $500k at GS. The last Tulane coach was making $1.2M.

I have no idea why Fritz would think Tulane is a better job.

BLah. #butthurt shares all around

We play them next season, so it's fine by me.

Sav'h Morning News reported this morning that he just got a raise and GSU would have to double his salary again to be competitive with Tulane.

Whether or not it's a good move depends on his goals. The path to a P5 coaching job might be easier at GSU, since they have a long history of football success and the recruiting advantages that go along with that. Tulane will be a bigger challenge, so Fritz might get paid a lot more over the next few years, but then discover that his ceiling is lower.

I'm a Southern grad too and while I think Fritz is a good coach and I don't think he's all that and a box of crackers. Maybe he realized - and from what I hear, he did - what a complete bag of s*** the Sun Belt is.

My oldest brother is also a Georgia Southern grad and he lived in New Orleans twice. Hated it both times. Said the food is good and the French Quarter and Garden District are nice but the rest of the city is a toilet. Bad roads, bad schools, bad government, bad cops.

Now let's see what that tool AD will do to replace Fritz. The rest of the Southern fan base loves the AD. I've talked to him. I think he's a clown.

New Orleans is a helluva lot better than Statesboro...unless you're a cow

Just heard word that Southern counter offered (as the deal isn't officially done?) with $900K. He'll be making 1.3 million at Tulane.

That's a ton of nickels and dimes to scrounge up. $900K? If they could make that offer now, why weren't they talking about a raise after last season or before this season? Not more than double, but about 20 percent, and then spread a little more around the assistant coaching pool.
