Tell that to Ohio State. Winning is definitely not a binary stat.

If OSU were to run the table, or just win the Big 10 --the fact that it was a W would far outweigh the memory that it was actually a close call.

True, much like the 2002 OSU team. They had multiple close calls but finished as undefeated national champions. I still think that Navy game raised a lot of questions compared to if they had manhandled them. Winning is not a binary stat.

Unless they are being compared to another team that ran the table, at which point a near loss to Navy will be quite a negative.
