Is the ACC a worse football conference than the Big East? I think so, if those three schools don't transfer conferences I think the Big East would be far and away better than the ACC and possibly better than the Big 12. Besides Tech, who else in the ACC is worth a crap this year? No one.

Maybe, but I'm not sure that Cincinnati would have gotten as good as it has. In fact, it probably would not have been in the conference without those teams leaving. I do think Syracuse will be respectable in a few years though.

EDIT: Cincinnati, Louisville, and USF all joined the Big East after the ACC's expansion. So no, I'm not sure that it would have been better than the ACC, although it is possible. An interesting article: LINK.

False comparison. You are comparing the Big East, including the teams attracted to replace the three defectors to the ACC WITHOUT those three teams.

Wow that's interesting I didn't realize the ACC caused such a massive chain of events realignment. For some reason I always thought Cinny and Louisville were always Big East teams.

Due to this thread, I got caught up reading about conferences on Wikipedia. Did y'all know that the Pac-10 has some associate members? SDSU in men's soccer, and 5 schools in wrestling (including Boise State). I had no idea. Also, BC is in a hockey-only conference called Hockey East.

Without VT, Miami and BC in ACC, the rest of the ACC teams would have been stronger. Maybe FSU wouldn't even be in this situation without those teams. Really difficult to compare.

That is true with other conferences as well. It's more major too, because I think Notre Dame and couple other teams are basketball members in other conferences but not football.

Yeah, I knew that about the Big East (Notre Dame, other non-football schools), but I didn't know it about the Pac-10.
