FIrst off, without thinking I'd say take the money.

However, that option would be a lot better for him if he could get into a situation like Aaron Rogers was in, where he could go sit and learn and fill out while pulling a good paycheck. Then going would be a no brainer. If he was drafted to start next year then I'd still say take the money but it wouldn't be nearly as good a situation for him.

Getting an Aaron Rogers' type situation is something that can't be planned on beforehand because you have to get by 15 teams first and you don't have any way to keep one of the bad ones from taking you before you get to where you need to be.

I'd still say take the money though.

what if you don't fulfill your contract?

If you don't fullfill your contract, like getting in trouble with the law, DUI's, hitting your wife and things like that the team can take away pro rated part of SB if they chose when they release you. The conduct clause is becoming very big in contracts these days because owners have been burnt in the past. The players assoc. can't really do anything about it because they don't want the expense of putting a body guard with every low life in the NFL who takes advantage of the league and team and rules.

If you just suck at the end of the 3rd year of a 5 year contract then the team will just cut ties and you probably will become a retread and bounce from team to team until you give up.

I was a little surprised to see this at first, but then when you see that their DT McCoy, OT Williams, and TE Gresham are all staying too, it's not as surprising.

As for the Stoops better win or he's gone thing, you guys have no clue what you're talking about. Look back and see where that program was before Stoops got there during the John Blake, Howard Schnellenburger days. The guy is loved in Oklahoma. If he leaves, it will be his decision. Not the other way around.

One of the talking heads yesterday also alluded.....

.....to his info that Sanchez has decided to declare.

Deadline's today. Deadline to UN-declare (if no agent has been signed) is Sunday, iirc.

Not a bad decision...Bradford is only a sophomore...needs to add some weight/strength to take the pounding in the NFL. He is very thin.

Meh, he could theoretically earn more next year. Given how ridiculously much the salary cap is going up this year team's are going to go on a spending spree for free agents. Some of that money is also going to go to higher rookie contracts. There's no rookie cap coming in next year so he won't have to worry about that, and if the cap makes another huge jump people may be giving out ridiculous amounts of money.

Also, it's not like he doesn't have that $3m insurance policy against injury for next year, so he's not going to struggle to eat.

Actually the nfl insiders have already said when the cap is gone they will see a reduction of money. I smell collusion simply because it has gotten out of hand.

Fulfill contract?

I think fulfilling the contract only requires you to show up to work, put forth significant effort everyday, and stay out of trouble.

If, after fulfilling those requirements, you don't pan out as they thought you would, I don't believe they can take back any signing bonus. And it is the rare instance where you'd get cut if they thought enough of you to give you a big signing bonus. So...basically, show up for work, make an effort every day at work, and the entire bonus is yours.

Now the word is Sanchez MAY still decide to stay at SC. Press conference scheduled for 1PM EST (10AM out there)

Despite the John Smoltz deal, I would have to think player salary inflation would have to stop at some point and the recession might start affecting even player salaries. At a certain point, advertisers will not pay more and fans will not pay more for tickets. Not to mention, car companies were big advertisers for the NFL and they'll probably be cutting back big time.

That may be true with the exception of a few like Jerry Jones and Dan Schneider. Without a cap Jerry Jones will turn the Cowboys into the Yankees of football.

There is a difference between fulfilling your contract and breech of contract. What Vick did was illegal, a felony, and thus he breeched his contract giving the Falcons recourse to collect some of the bonus.

If a player just sucks at football and they cut him, well that's not a breech of contract. The team has to pay any guaranteed portion in that case.

Bradford's coming back....... Very surprised by the decision. The pressure on Stoops now will be just unbearable. If he doesn't win the NC next year I predict he may be gone.

mover, if you're living on the street now, let me know. i can help a brother out

dont want you roaming the streets, it could be dangerous for the street folk...

I bet mover got his info from a shoeshine boy.

I think for Stoops it'll be more like get in NC contention or 'wtf have you been doing?' kinda thing. I mean it isn't going to be shocking if Texas beats OU again. As long as he doesnt go and loose to Nebraska or something he won't be that bad off. O and if he looses a bowl game that isn't a BSC bowl there might be trouble as well.

I can see it starting that way John, but sooner or later one of the owners will do something stupid and the flood gaets will open again.

You're right. Jerry Jones and Snyder will buck the trend. Jerry has too fill a 100,000 seat stadium. The other owners won't be able to do it though. Economy sucks and I think you will see advertising take a hit. I can't wait to see what the asking price will be for the SB this year. Mes thinks it will be lower than past years.
