Worst possible hire?

Ladies and Gentlemen (and BOR),

I present for your consideration, the undesputed champion within the state of Alabama, Mike Price, now residing at UTEP.

He will come for free; all he wants is a company charge card.

Winner --although it's your thread so officially I guess you call the winner.

...we will have to check the rules --can a thread starter post in and win his own thread?

This thread reminds me of all the rumors that Kirk Ferentz was going to be Michigan's head coach. It was believable and at the same time horrifying.

As far as "believable" hires, I would say Franchione. Somebody on the Hive actually suggested him. A former Kansas AD talked about the process of hiring Mangino and how Fran was about to take an offer for Kansas in his first year at Bama. Thankfully for Kansas, Fran told them to wait until he sees if the newly opened ND job was available. The Kansas AD saw how fishy he was and took Mangino instead. Then Fran went on to leave Bama without personally addressing his players and went to aTm, where he would lose to Oklahoma 77-0 and have a generally mediocre record while having that premium e-mail list thing.

I think Ferentz gets the MICH job. He seems like their kind of guy.

Flag. 15 yard penalty. Carol Moore isn't a coach. I could just as easily say Richard Simmons if Carol Moore is fair game.

Richard Simmons is a coach IIRC; he's the head man of the Packers, the FudgePackers that is.

Funny, because i was going to suggest Simmons as the worst coach, until I thought of someone worse.

Chuck Armato....could you imagine what he would look like in yellow shades & yellow shoes strutting down the side lines....ha ha

If Michigan promotes a head coach from outside of the organization, it's probably someone extremely special. If they can't find anyone that worthy, Michigan would likely promote from within. I don't think Ferentz has those ties...maybe he does?

Les Miles would be considered a viable "from within"-style candidate because he was under Schembechler. Shoot, Schembechler helped Les by watching LSU videos and giving him advice in his first years with the Tigers. However, UMich's AD is probably asking questions after Miles' apparent problems in finishing games late in the game / in OTs.

But anyway, Ferentz is probably not their type of guy because usually their type of guy has blue in his veins. Besides, a Michigan dude recently implied that if they're interested in you, you'll be called. The issue of salary and buying out another coach is no problem for them. They'll get who they want.

Not a GT post, but I'll always comment on my second fav. team especially if someone makes less than correct post on their behalf! ;)

As far as Michigan, their current AD seems to be their version of Dave Braine. He strongly emphasized "class" and respect for Michigan as opposed to the "entertaining" and "energizing" that DRad emphasized. Ferentz fits within a safe hire for not letting Michigan getting broiled down in controversy, even though the fan base would truly hate his hire.

The person Michigan should hire is Brian Kelly. Les Miles is just an awful gameday coach. LSU's talent already put Saban in a much higher place than he deserved and it will give Les too much credit too.
