Get the ball first and score in 1 or 2 plays?
Or get the ball, and have an 8 minute touchdown drive demoralizing their defense (I think this is the obvious choice).
I honestly think we will win, if we do start the game with the ball along with a very long drive for a touchdown.

I'd rather get the ball first and score in 1 or 2 plays,
then get a 3 & out,
then get the ball back and score in 1 or 2 plays,
then get a 3 & out,
then get the ball back and score in 1 or 2 plays,

you get the picture

My point is - LET'S PLAY SOME D!

IF WE DO, WE WIN
IF WE DON'T WE LOSE

Either way works for me. A long drive has its advantages, as does scoring quickly and instantly igniting the crowd.

I had rather have one were a VPI player passed out every down from our offense' pure awesomeness.

I'd rather kick it off to them, force the fumble on the return and return it for a TD. Then kickoff again, force another fumble, but this time down it so that the offense scores a touchdown.

Repeat until end of game.

This scenario ensures that our putrid defense never has to touch the field.

I would rather VPI get the ball first in the mindset of 'if they can get GT behind then they've got advantage' and then stop em for nothing, and then score. Then we have a double advantage in getting the ball first in second half.

GO JACKETS!!!

Deferring and stopping them would be most ideal. I just don't like the idea of them with the ball first and scoring first.

either that or find a way to be down 28-12 at the half so that CPJ can reproduce his halftime speech that I've only heard legends about what he said, then come out and beat them 45-42.

The length of a drive is not controlled by our coaches/players. For instance, if Dwyer gets the ball and sees a ton of green in front of him, he isn't going to fall on the ground after the first down just to make the drive last longer. He is going to try and get the ball in the endzone.

Since it is an uncontrollable factor, I will take what I can get. As long as it produces a TD. I would prefer a 10 second drive yielding 7 points over a 10 minute drive yielding 3 points.

I concur, but I would also like to give my defense some breathers every now and again.

...so you'd rather JD take a knee after a few yards?

Not hardly, I am just saying if you do have a sustained drive, it gives the defense time to rest. I will take points however I can get them though.

solution: onside kick it every time. we don't have to worry about the defense or our kick coverage.

unless VT recovers it in good field position. That just shifts the blame for poor playing from the defense onto the special teams.... wait... was that the plan?

well played, you crafty devil you!

While I think it's obvious you take points any way you can get them, I think that long drives on offense both demoralize the opposing offense and prop up the defense. Ideally I'd love to start off with an 8 minute clock eater that ends in a TD run; however, I'd also be ecstatic to score in one play.

I actually thought this was a clever call by FSU, and wished we had done the "surprise" onside kick first.

I was also impressed how quickly our front line reacted and fell on the ball.

The quick scores with big plays are more demoralizing to the D (IMO) and to the opposing O. Just think how it feels to score, then have the opposing team score in one/two plays. It's very deflating. The problem we've had is coming out flat after the quick score (ala Clemson). If we can get a quick score AND keep the momentum, it should build from there.

I would hope our defense is in shape enough at 50 degrees that they won't be tired, sheesh their kids, stop whining.
