Wow...according to SI.com, we are worse than Duke

Its not all bad....atleast they named Vance Walker first team all-american. Didnt see it online, but its in the magazine.

Also, CPJ is ACC "Coach on the Rise". MJ gets a plug as a "Player to keep an eye on".

I don't know guys. I'm not sure if we can win with a weak offense that turns the ball over too much and a strong defense. I mean, we've only been doing just that way for the past 7 years. Have any of these guys even seen our offense over the past 7 years?

qft. I've been saying this the entire offseason to the folks who say, "We're only going to win 3 or 4 games this year." I see it as an even shift (6 wins in my mind at the least) with nowhere to go but up.

Anybody remember this preseason jewel from SI.com? How you like the Jackets now, biyatch?

Stewart Mandel's one of SI's lead college football writers, and I'd guess he had a big part in helping put together the rankings for that preview. He's also an AP voter and has us in his top 25 now, so I'll give them a little slack... just a little.

Well, we were such an unknown coming into this season it is hard to gripe too much about preseason uncertainty. We surely have done better than most thought based on what we saw in the T-day game.

Look at other teams with first year coaches who are struggling, such as Michigan (new system like us), West Virginia, Nebraska. Both Duke and GT are ahead of most preseason expectations so far at least.

All very true. At the time I thought that SI having us lower than Duke was incorrect, but other than that they might have been right.

Our defense and Defensive line weren't unknowns though. Neither were Nesbitt nor JD.The defensive line and defense alone should have had us ranked higher than that, no matter how good (or bad) our offense could've been.

This is undoubtably the worst list of college football rankings that I have ever seen. Thing is some of the morons that compiled this list probably have a vote in the polls.

Well, we did have a new defensive coordinator, so our defense was an unknown at the time. Also, if our offense was not working, I don't care how good our defensive line is, they would have gotten tired out -- just like Duke's line did on Saturday.

So while preseason ratings are pretty much a crapshoot--I really do not think SI was completely off the wall with their guess.
