You know how the ESPN ticker...

The jig is up. Someone fixed the joke. Now it says....

"VT - Allowed 47 rushing ypg in last 3 games"
"GT - Winless in last 17 home games vs Top-5 teams"

I saw this and remembered thinking that couldn't be right...didn't we beat Miami when they were like #3? And wasn't Auburn highly ranked (or was that a road game?).

Just seems like this can't be right somehow.

Miami was #3 in '05, but that was on the road.

Wasn't UVA ranked in the top 5 when we beat them at home in the late 90's? It doesn't seem like we've played 17 home games against top-5 teams since then.

Ah, never mind...just looked it up, UVA was ranked #7 in the AP when we beat them at home in '98.

Are you thinking of the Charlottesville game where they were #1 in the 1990?

98 - we played them at home and they were pretty highly ranked (7/8 as posted above) and we came back from 21 pts down (?) to win then played F$U at home the following week (they were 6) and lost.

According to our media guide, here are the Top 5 teams we have lost to at home since the last time we beat one. Maybe I made an error (I double checked) but it seems to me the number of times in a row we have failed to beat a Top 5 team at home is 18, although one was a tie.

2006 Notre Dame
2004 Miami
2003 team shall not be named
2000 FSU
1997 UNC
1996 FSU
1987 Auburn
1983 Auburn
1983 UNC
1982 Alabama
1981 team shall not be named
1980 Notre Dame (tie)
1979 Alabama
1976 Pittsburgh
1974 Notre Dame
1973 USC (Trojans)
1971 Auburn
1964 Alabama

And in 1962, we beat #1 Alabama 7-6.

Is it crazy that Beamer has well over twice the number of years as a head coach as Paul Johnson but less than double the number of wins?
