Confirmed: ND to make a deal with ACC. 5 FB games/year, full member in others

Close enough that it hurts, doesn't it? I really would not have said that if it was remotely possible in my mind. I'm terrified of urine.

Claiming exemption on a technicality? The original post did not qualify that only joining as a full member in all sports was required.

Not at all. I simply know what I meant when I typed it out. ND football joining the ACC was/is the thing I believe has zero chance of happening right now. That was sealed, in my opinion by this move.

See you in 2015.

Apparently, Swofford is now the idiot savant of the BCS conferences ...

The realignment of college athletics has taught us a variety of lessons. Chief among them: Never play poker with ACC commissioner John Swofford. He'll lull you into a false sense of security with that folksy, aw-shucks aura, and then BAM! Next thing you know, you have no money, no watch and you're standing outside the saloon wearing a rain barrel.

Florida State was the only team in the ACC to vote against Notre Dame entering the conference.

We're always going to have to earn our bowl game. The bowls are a popularity contest and most bowls would pick FSU, VPI, and Clemson over us if they had the chance. We don't have the traveling fan support to sell the tickets. The worst thing for us would be if one of those teams doesn't win the ACC and we don't either. We'd be 4th in the pecking order after BCS bowls.

I ran the numbers on "Tech doesn't travel to bowls," although it was quite a few years ago now. Early in our bowl streak, when we had played in decent bowls but were starting to get passed over, the numbers showed that Tech travelled pretty well compared to others in the ACC to comparable bowls (i.e., when we play in east coast bowls, we show up as well as most teams in the ACC, and nobody goes to Boise or San Francisco).

FSU fans don't really travel outside of Florida, and VPI fans don't particularly travel at all. I don't get why Tech fans negatively recruit against their own team.

I actually heard the ND vote was unanimous. FSU voted against raising the buyout.

This further shows they are desperate to get out. Too bad they're pretty much stuck now :lol::lol:

Screw'em. Hope they truly are stuck in the conference and they're miserable and we make it worse by continuing to kick their butts when the series renews. I hate that school.

Sounds good but one thing. ND is eligible as a member of the ACC. That means an awful lot of bowl eligible teams in the short term are going to get bumped. ND won't fall past the Chic-Fil-A bowl with even a 6-6 or 7-5 record.

However, the bowl landscape for the ACC just got a little better in the future.

cool bowls.

lets try winning one of the crap ones before we start talking about getting any better ones.

I work with a sidewalk FSU fan and every single day for the past eight months he's said "maybe we'll get out of the ACC today! I hate the ACC". So on and so on.

About a month ago, I finally asked him why he wanted out so bad. He said it was because of money. I asked him why money was so important, since their AA runs a balanced budget. He pointed to the need to upgrade their facilities. So I asked him why facilities are so important. He mentioned how better facilities = better recruits. I asked him how FSU's past few recruiting classes were. Obviously, they've had top 5 recruiting classes for a few years. Why, then, can't they win the ACC if it's such a weak conference and they have such good recruits? Do they think it'll be easier to be a national contender in a conference where they'd play Alabama, LSU, etc?

Good riddance to them, I'm glad they're stuck and I hope we beat them down in the future like we did in '08 and '09.

The downside for me is that there will be a time where I will need to root for ND to win. The last time I did that was in 1990 and I was in complete misery until the UPI Coaches Poll saved the day. That day and January 1981 are the only times I was unhappy to see ND lose.

You guys just won $1,000 on a scratch-off and you decided to shoot yourselves when you remembered you have to pay taxes on it.

Seriously, how is this not a good thing?

Seriously????? You think this is a good thing?

The only team benefitting from this is Notre Dame. They get to play basketball and all other sports.....NONE of which really increases the ACC's prestige. Notre Dame basketball, baseball, etc isn't going to help us that much. As far as ND football is concerned, they got their wish. They get a tie-in to the ACC's bowl structure but aren't required to play an ACC schedule. instead, they "grace us" by playing 5 games per year.

This is akin to the prom queen telling you that you can tell other people that you're getting married. You're going to pay for all her expenses for her to live with you but she's going to keep screwing other guys whenever and where ever she wants to do so. Oh and you don't get laid...you just get to see her naked every now and than. But, being the sad little disgusting nerd, you run off happy about the deal thinking you are the luckiest man alive because "one day, she'll see how great I am and want to let me consummate the marriage".

Sad, sad, sad day to be in the ACC in my opinion.
