Does anyone else feel really fortunate to be a GT football fan right now? I was just perusing the lines for the games this week and saw that NC St was a double digit favorite over Wake. Can you imagine being a fan of either of these teams? What would we be saying on this site if we were a 14+ point underdog to a team that just lost by over 30?? At home? At their homecoming???

I don't have any gut feelings about the Clemson game. I hope we win. The wife is an Auburn graduate and everyone over there has thrown the season away now that they are looooooong shots to make the playoffs. I suppose the culture is different with expectations, etc. Regardless, I have had a great time watching our team this year and am looking forward to another awesome experience this weekend.

Point of the post - I am PROUD to be a GT fan and am extremely impressed with results this year. My expectations before the season were tempered and I have to admit that I have been VERY pleasantly surprised.

And if we lose....I guess we have that whole academic thing to fall back on.

Gotta beat Georgie. I'm sick and tired of losing to those asshats.

Yep. If we went 9-3 with a loss to UGA, I'd be pretty disappointed... We're due for a win. Don't get me wrong, would still be a great season vs. expectations. But losing to them to finish out the regular season has just happened too freaking much.

That's the key for me. This team has been so much fun to watch. Of course I'll be disappointed if we don't win out, but I will have still enjoyed the season and watching this team develop and grow. Go Jackets!

I think it's fantastic to be a GT fan. As we all saw a few weeks ago, GT has the highest SAT scores of any public university in the country and that flat out makes recruiting hard as hell...period. Custis was going to be a stud but couldn't make the grades.

we are always at the top of our division in our conference.

THE ONLY problem is our record vs UGA but all things considered we are pretty öööö strong the last couple of decades.

One of the longest bowl streaks in the country (don't care if there are too many bowls...we still go)

Longest streak in the county for being 500 or above in our conference...20 years.

PJ's offense is purring as well as any in the country. We finally have a 4/5 star athlete at QB (JT would have been maybe 5 star if commited to UGA) and look at the difference it makes. how many times has JT been able to get past the line and simply outrun the backer to get that extra 3 yards for the 1st down. Go back and watch how many times he does this. He did it twice on the game winning drive vs GSU.

I'm an optimist but we are a helluva lot better than most think. World class education and top notch athletics. The only way to clear the final hurdle is for the school to create a major that doesn't include calculus, etc..

Since the program bottomed out in the 60s we've pretty much gotten better every decade. The 2000s were slow, but we did manage to make a bowl game every year, saw the best player in the history of the school come through, and seamlessly transitioned coaches twice.

Your timeline is a little off.

Bottomed out I mean when Dodd left. So the 70s being the worst decade, 80s being better, 90s being better than that, and 00s better than that.

There have been blips that throw it off - like 1990 for instance - but generally speaking I think our program has gradually gotten stronger every decade - 70s > 80s > 90s> 00s

I love for my team to win football games, don't get me wrong. I get plenty pissed off when we don't and my blood pressure spikes every time the other team converts a 3rd down. But a few years back I had to have a serious reality check on what I was allowing to control my happiness for a few days at a time. I came to the realization that relying on 18-21 year olds to win football games in order for me to have a good weekend was downright ridiculous.

Since that fateful night (Saturday after Thanksgiving, 2009) I've been just as happy about the wins but nowhere near as devastated by the losses. Such is the benefit of having no real impact on the outcome of the game.

The thing I love most about football season is who I go to the games with and how much ridiculous fun we have before, during, and after the games. It takes a special kind of person to be a diehard Tech fan and our group has some of the best around.

And sure, winning makes it all the more enjoyable... and in 2014 we've already done a lot more winning than most of us thought we would.

Finally, its hard not to enjoy this season for me. This little guy was born a few hours before Harrison Butker kicked a FG to beat Virginia Tech on 9/20.

Saturday's the last chance to do it again until Fall next year. See y'all there.

Teach me your secret because I'm in a bad mood for a while after losses. haha

It has been a better than average year. If we beat UGA it will be way above average.

This year has been a LOT of fun. We've had to wait a while for some of these good wins we've been enjoying.

2013. SUCKED. Not a single win over a quality opponent.

2012. SUCKED. Not a single win over a quality opponent.

Really hope we finish out the year strong. Beating UGA with their Heisman-caliber running back would be HUGE for CPJ and the program moving forward.

If I have learned anything it's that for PJ's system to work, the best player on our team needs to be the QB (although Dwyer and Baybay may have been better...you get my point...Nesbitt was a stud with a fantastic demeanor as our leader...see FSU fumble wait give me that back to make my point)

Follow up...QB doesn't have to be the best player but can't simply be a role player IMHO

My secret is that I have bigger things going on in my life. I will say that when we lose, I don't watch much/any other football the rest of the day.

This yr has been as pleasant surprise as last yr was a disappointment--so far

I've found that I care a little less after losses than I used to. I don't really have a trick, and it's not that I've got THAT much better stuff going on in my life; I think some of the brutal losses and off-the-field nutkicks of the last few years just kind of cauterized my emotions. I still hate to lose, but I don't lose much sleep over it anymore. (I am kicking myself a little over what could have been this year if we hadn't stumbled over Duke and Carolina, of all teams...)

Last year's U[sic]GA loss would probably bother me more than it does if I wasn't super sick with a fever during the game. As it stands, I really have only a hazy, fevered recollection of watching the game and then passing out when I got home. The fact that I work at GT and pretty much don't have to deal with any U[sic]GA fans (or jerkwad fans of any other team) on a daily basis also helps temper the pain of losses.

I've been enjoying the heck out of this year's games for a change. The offense is fun to watch (which offsets some of the defensive frustration) and we seem to be getting some breaks occasionally. That's a welcome change from the last couple of years, which were frustrating slogs that I was kind of ready to see the end of by the end of the season.

this has been a great year for TECH, especially considering the off season. We lost about ten players some of which were projected starters.
I feel that this is a testament to the coaching staff and the kids on the team. And I agree that JT has been a big boost in the offense. If he plays as well the next three to four games he will be an early Heisman candidate next year.
