BB is not a flashy role in the offense. It's the workhorse. It's all about taking what you can get up the middle, but when 2 yards is what you need, you have to get it. I'd rather have a guy that gets those 2 yards every time, than a guy who can dance for the highlight reel once a week. Laskey is plenty good enough.

This. I want a guy who can get 7-8 yards a clip when the defense is trying to stop the outside (see Laskey against VT, Syracuse, uva last year, and Miami, BC, and Duke in 2012). I also want a guy who can get the tough 1-2 yards on a midline option so its not obvious the QB is getting it every time. I think Laskey can do both of those.

Pretty bad post if you ask me. Laskey may not be a home run threat, but a near 6 ypc average and 7 TDs in 84 carries are nothing to sneeze at. He had nearly as many yards as Vad, in nearly 100 less carries. His per carry average (5.8) was higher than Sims and was the best 60+ carry average for a BB at GT since Dwyer in 2009 (5.9).

Just for reference: Dwyer averaged 7.0 in 2008 and 5.9 in 2009.

Allen averaged 5.5 in 2010.

Lyons averaged 4.6, 4.3, and 6.0 in about 100 career carries over three years.

Sims averaged 5.2 in 2011, 4.5 in 2012, and 5.5 in 2013.
Lets be honest. When it comes to the first 5-10 yards of a carry for a BBs it has very little to do with the BBs talent. It's on the OL's blocking and the QB's read.

A playmaker takes that and turns it into a 40 yard play. We don't have that and haven't had it since Dwyer left.

IMO, we have enough potential, but next 2 months is critical in terms of injuries.

Here are the playmakers: Jamal Golden, Nealy, Justin Thomas, Smelter

Here are the potential playmakers: Laskey (IMO breaking tackles for a TD on 3&3 is playmaking), Waller, Lynn Griffin, Zenon, Hill, Perkins

And that's excluding the lines, where we also have some talent and also some risk.

Do you honestly believe that a five star running back wouldn't immediately beat those guys out?

There are definitely multiple high schools out there with one better back than either of our guys.

What 5 star RB can we get? I may have missed the point where we are intentionally skipping over studs.

There is ONE 5 star RB in the 2015 class. He's already committed to Auburn.

There were a lot more in 2014, but they committed to SEC schools, FSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ok St, and Miami.

Same thing in 2013 - SEC schools, Michigan, Oregon, Oklahoma, and USCw.

2012 was SEC, Texas, Pitt, Miami, FSU, and Ohio State.

Sure the best RBs in the country are better than our guys, but we have never in our programs history landed one of them. Even dudes like Dwyer weren't 5 stars and weren't in the top 5 at their position.

You blew all credibility when you said "little" to do. I agree the QB read and OL blocking obviously have something to do with it. But the first 5-10 yards are also based on quickness, toughness, not going down easy, hitting the hole hard, staying low, etc. Sure, the home run thing is nice and sure, Laskey doesn't have the talent of Dwyer, but you are an idiot if you think (as you appear to) that it doesn't matter who we run out on the field for the first 5-10 yards.

You guys are also forgetting what the BB give looks like when the middle linebacker is fooled and the safety is taking the outside. Remember Lucas Cox running for 30 yards and tripping over the 20 yard line against Miami?

This offense is not a collection of individual pieces, but a integrated system. If the offense operates well, the plays will come.

Gotsis and Green are solid, its the ends that are concerning, IMO.

Obviously you need to have some quickness. If the play is executed and called correctly you don't need a super talented back to get 5+. He won't get touched.

We don't have a BB that would start at RB for any non 3O school. That is a major failing of CPJ.

Agree, and I think Laskey is key to Thomas and Smelter's effectiveness.

this is the dumbest statement i've read all week.

we don't have a single rb that is better than whatever georgia state runs out there?

Do you even hyperbole, bro?

Obviously we have better backs than the Georgia States and Idahos of the world. However it is telling that between our 1 and 2 BBs the only FBS offers between the two were us, AFA, and Navy.

I don't think it's telling at all. We've had some pretty major retention issues at the spot. If Perkins had panned out at the position and Custis was still on the roster you wouldn't be saying that. We've gotten unlucky more than anything else.

And I got banned for "douchebag?"

Douche bags, actually. About 100 times.

Can anyone honestly say they left the scrimmage encouraged?

No Thomas (injured - get used to it)
No Laskey
Wobbly passes
OL getting blown up
Not a single player that looks capable of making a play (save, perhaps, Byerly)

I think these guys have done better than you expected.

The football team winning is like controlling the clock and keeping the other team's offense off the field; the other team's offense in this case are retard stingtalk posters. It seems we've gone 3 and out and stalled a bit, just in time for COFH. öööö.

I think these guys have done better than you expected.

Can we stop with these gay "you didn't know what you're talking about" bumps? They're lame as öööö. This team has totally outperformed everyone's expectations including yours so STFU already. Having to wade through an entire thread to get to your "I gotcha!!!" is retarded. Focus on hating UGA.

I am organizing looting and property damage in downtown StingTalk in response to all of these thread bumps.
