Best play/game of the year

Not sure if someone said this, but the TD pass to Smelter to tie up the VT game is right up there. Kind of like SouthEndZoneBee said about the GASO game.. we lose against VPI, things go a lot differently.

Most of mine have already been mentioned. Two games with unbelievable moments in them need mention...

*The first 5 minutes of the Pitt game; 6 offensive plays, 4 turnovers, 28-0 Tech before I had cracked open my 2nd beer.

*NC State runs 26 consecutive offensive plays during an 11 minute stretch, and GT scores 14 points without the offense taking a snap.

I still wish Golden had housed that punt return when it looked like he had some space. Would have been epic to outscore them 21-0 in the 2nd quarter without even taking a snap.

GSU fumble / 4th and 15 are #1a and #1b for me. No one talks about those now (other than on here), but those would have been fire-able offenses.

This is not only the best play of the year, it completely changed the face and tone of our defense for the rest of the year, save a couple breakdowns vs FSU. We were a completely different defense after this one play. Most impactful play on a game and season I have ever witnessed. No question.

I think the most important play for the defense was the UNC touchdown. I think the defense needed a real kick in the ass and that was it.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but overall I feel like there were less offensive highlights than in years past. Our offense has rarely ran more efficiently than this year, but it seemed to be more in the 10-20 yard runs than the 30+ yard td runs. I wonder if defenses were respecting the big play more than in the past.

Yeah, that's something that was weird to me this year - we didn't break many long TDs. We probably had more long TDs against FSU in that 2009 game in Tallahassee than we had all season this year. Maybe it's a matter of guys that don't necessarily have breakaway speed but played really well within the system.

Also, while we had a lot really good, long drives and generally controlled TOP, the "death march" drives didn't feel as obvious this year as they did in 2009. Maybe I'm just getting used to seeing them, though.

After rewatching the Uga game multiple times, I'm still amazed at Milton barely being in the frame to knocking Chubb out of bounds. Two plays later the ball is on the ground and set the tone.

JT'S TD to beat GS is the play of the year. 2nd would be 53 yards by Butker. 3rd is tie between 4th down to Smelter vs VT & White's int vs VT.

I feel like a dumpster fire would have been lit if Tech lost to GS.

The most satisfying was the last 18 seconds of the Mutt game. Watching those same dumb Georgia fans so sure of the win and ripping it out of their hands was priceless. These were the same idiots who didn't realize letting them score a touchdown was our only way to win a few years ago. Taking their confident attitude out of them is special. And what makes it even better is they don't realize it until it's over. After the runback, I told my dad we needed about 25 yards for a field goal attempt while the Georgia fans were celebrating, clueless that they hadn't wrapped it up.

Well, we have 3 weeks to reflect on this awesome and pleasantly surprising season, so what is your best play/game of the season so far?

Obviously, the UGA game is the first that comes to mind, but I'm more thinking of under the radar plays/games that affected this season.

Mine- I think the Georgia Southern win was a huge one, especially with how it was won. Helped pull out close victories down the road such as Miami, VT, UGA, etc and also learned to not take the pedal off the gas. If GT loses that one who knows how this season ends up. It reminded me a lot of the Miami game a couple years ago, and we all know how the team reacted in the following weeks after blowing that game.

As for play- my choice is the Thomas-Smelter 4th and 15 play against VT.
Putting the UGAG game aside, i agree with you on the Ga Southern game. I think if we lose that game our season would have went south, it was the turning point.

that time we lined up offside on a punt against Duke.

Personally, I hated every single one of those seconds until Butker's kick cleared.

I still hated them until the pick.

LMAO I will admit that until the pick I was completely convinced that the universe hated me and Georgia Tech and all GT fans because the field goal was only allowed in order to extend the agony - so we could have an extra point blocked and lose in even more frustrating and stupid fashion. I was completely defeated and resigned to watching them win by one point and trying to decide if it was going to make me throw up or not. And then a miracle happened. I still wasn't sure to believe it or not cause I kept waiting for the camera to zoom in on a flag of some kind. It took a long time to really sink in that we had won.

I was thinking the same about overtime. I didn't even feel like we'd really won until an hour later.

I thought the Clemson game was the most complete game that we played. It is an awesome game to watch on one's DVR -- we had the Tigers on their heels the whole game!

And I thought that I was the only person who brought uber-angst trepidation to GT situations like that ... that was my fear as well ...

I thought I was the only one like this.
