Darren Waller Shrine Game Update

Some websites I saw Waller rated higher than Smelter. Don't expect either to be drafted all that high though. Would like to see Waller maybe end up with the Falcons and play tight end.

"Only" 4 drafted since 2002... Isn't that more than most teams???

He is gonna make a few NFL corners his bitch over the next several seasons, as will Waller....GT makes tough wideouts.

Waller is not getting drafted.

Waller is not getting drafted.

Agree, he's not getting drafted. But he will get some looks as a undrafted FA. Smelter will prolly end up a 2nd or 3rd Rounder.

Doesn't take an expert to know that Waller is not going to get drafted.

I could go on and on. But instead I'll point out that I know more about football than these guys right up there.

Maybe you should wait till draft first...

No, I'm pretty confident he'll be drafted. I'm not saying he'll go higher than Smelter but it is certainly a possibility.

If you look at the kid's highlights, he's got a lot of positive attributes that someone will take a gamble on.

I don't think he'll get drafted

Based upon what info? Waller is ranked ahead of Smelter in the ESPN draft database. NFL is way more obsessed with measurables than college production (since college production has almost no correlation to NFL success). Hell its why they love converting college power forwards (with no football stats) into tight ends. Waller's height/weight/speed combination, assuming he runs no worse than 4.6, is rare and in absolute demand. He will get drafted and could possibly rocket up draft boards if he kills it at pro day.

I don't think he has the overall athleticism to play WR in the NFL.

Maybe add some weight and play TE?

It is my understanding that NFL scouts have been more interested in Waller than Smelter all season. I expect him to be drafted and think anyone who says he will not be drafted is only saying it based on the fact that he wasn't a stud in the offense. His college numbers do not matter as much as his measurables.

At least the kid can catch. The last WR we put in the NFL primarily because of measurements and combine stats was a total bust and is an embarrassment to the school by his remarks on our offense. I'm still pissed about Stephen Hill.... The kid acted like our offense held him back, then he got in the NFL and had the same problems he had in our offense - making plays.

If Waller can put out a good combine and gain 20 pounds which would maybe convince the NFL scouts he is TE ready, you know that he will get in there and make plays. He stepped up for us when we needed him.

The 20 pounds is not neccessary.

I remember a certain former GT runningback saying the same thing.

While the NFL does specialize with blocking TEs and pass catching TEs, it's better to be able to do both.

Waller isn't going to outquick folks, so some added size would benefit him IMO.

I think we have had more starting WRs make it to the NFL than not.

NFL:
Cone
Hill
Smelter (probable)
Thomas
Waller (probable)

No NFL:
Earls (did he start? can't remember)
McKayhan
Melton
Moore (did he start? can't remember)

Doesn't count:
Greene (transferred)
