Congratulations to Coach Johnson and His Staff

I posted it several times already, but it feels great every time. We've now built a foundation for sustained success. Over the last few years (and culminating with the 11-3 OB champs):

1) We're coming off a season with the most positive press towards Tech in decades
2) Our staff is entrenched - unlikely that our HC/OC/DC are going anywhere
3) CPJ has expanded our recruiting office and gained the trust of the Hill
4) Our marketing team has done a great job with branding (#togetherweswarm)
5) Our AA is scheduling to make fans happy and help SOS (ND and possibly Tenn/Auburn)

This could be a turning point for the program with a few more 10+ win seasons. Vitally important that we keep the ball rolling downhill this season. It's an incredibly tough schedule, but if we can manage to get to 9-3 (or better) in the regular season and stay in the polls all year we set ourselves up for another good '16 class and more momentum heading into JT5s senior season. Exciting times for sure!

A few 10 win seasons turns around any program, (Cept for UGA, for whom 10 wins is a let down from pre-season expectations)

Not true. Off the top of my head (and some research afterwards)...

Cinci had a few 10 wins seasons under Brian Kelly. Kelly left and they tanked (recovered somewhat of late).

Rutgers had a few years at the top under Schiano. Again Schiano left and they tanked.

You think Arizona is going to do anything if/when Rich Rod leaves?

Texas Tech had a few great seasons under Leach and are now again an afterthought.

A few 10 win seasons turn around the public perception of a program. But you need a basis for continued success. And that comes from retaining coaching staffs (see VT). With our obvious disadvantages in recruiting it's important that we both find a coach who can deal with that (CPJ) and that will stay for one reason or another (CPJ/Roof). This is a fairly unique situation we happen to be in as a non-factory. We have a quality, successful HC/OC/DC who have little to no reason to leave the school despite being desired by other programs.

Think about it. Our HC loves being here and is signed for the next 5 years. The elite teams who could poach him don't want to run his system. He's also our OC so no worries there. Our DC is an alumnus who has already made the HC/DC rounds so wouldn't be surprised if he'd rather stay DC rather then promoted again elsewhere. This is coaching stability that few other schools can offer (actually not sure I can think of another P5 team in the country that doesn't even have to worry about their OC/DC getting HC gigs elsewhere).

Combine this situation with momentum on the field and momentum on the recruiting trail and you're now building a program.

Drinking the GT kool-aid right now is better than Prozac.

No koolaid, just saying the foundation is there. If we go 6-6 next year (which is possible) then we've squandered a great chance to turn this program into something bigger. But if we're in a NY6 game again, suddenly we're THE option team in college football with a feared offense who is consistently winning bigtime games. Positive press continues, RBs start to view us as the place you go to play, etc.

I'm just saying we've got some momentum and can't afford to squander it. I'd say 9-3 is a reasonable prediction with 8-4 probably more likely than 10-2 given our loaded schedule. No koolaid, just excited for the opportunity that's there.

And to not let this get too side-tracked from the OP, a big thanks to CPJ for putting the offense together and Roof for making the best of about as thin a DL as an 11-win team has ever had. And props to the recruiting staff for parlaying the last 3 years of work and this season into a very solid recruiting class.

8-4 is probably the best we can expect before seeing how the team looks next year. It is really a brutal schedule and most media that I've seen commenting on it have wondering who has a grudge against us.

I have felt this way since CPJ got here - long term stability is the way to build an elite program (for us).

Once PJ showed that he was a competitor ('08-'09), I felt the best plan was to keep him here long term, even if some years are down. The 3 year carousel of coaching turnover will NOT build success here (if anywhere). I truly hope that CPJ plays out his career at GT.

Exactly. And hopefully by the time he is ready to retire, somebody like Monken or Niumatalolo is ready to take over the reigns.

I agree. Tech had 3 coaches in 60+ years of football, and then followed that up with 9 coaches in <50 years of football.

Since the 60's, ugag is on its 4th coach. Tech is on its 9th.

To all the people who pulled up my past posts that were critical of Coach Johnson for one thing or the other, I wish I had never posted them. I hope I have learned from my mistakes and don't let my frustration show the next time we have a rough stretch.

I was wrong to post anything negative, and I'm sorry that I did. I'm pretty emotional about Tech football, and I need to keep my frustrations to myself. So, all the people who called me out were right to do so.

But I am very happy and excited about Tech football right now. I don't remember when I felt like Tech football was in more solid shape than it's in right now.

Considering what we did this year and the fact that we'll have more experience and quality depth next season, I don't think there's a team in America we couldn't beat in 2015. This doesn't mean we'll win 'um all, but we have as good a chance as Alabama, Ohio State or anybody else to win the national championship.

I think we're improving more as a team than our schedule is getting harder, and I also think having a harder schedule will really help our chance of getting in the four team playoff.

After watching this past season, I just think we've got a great offensive system that will get better, an improving defense that will get better, and more talent and depth than we've had in a very long time.

And, if I'm wrong and we have an off year, I'll do my best to keep my mouth shut.

It's not wrong to post something negative.

Just think to yourself, "would TaxJacket post this?"

And if the answer is "yes," then don't post it.

We all post stupid öööö from time to time. Don't let it bother you. Just own it and move on.

It also helps to call other posters some names and insinuate that you've had carnal relations with their mothers. In no time flat, you'll be an accepted member of the ST community.

Dude probably feels like a real bitch in the afterlife right now.
Kind of like that other message board that spent almost three years trying to get Johnson fired and as this season progressed discovered it had nothing to say about anything. Another kind of afterlife maybe.

Great season. Great recruiting class. Great future for Tech football.

Tech does it, Tech does it right, and Tech wins doing it.

I would not trade Coach Johnson for any other coach in America. :bowrofl:He has a great system, and now he's getting quality depth to run it.

It hasn't been like this since Coach Dodd was here. I am just so thankful that my Daddy brought me up to be a Yellow Jacket.

Like the buttons people wore when Coach Dodd was here said, "I Like Tech."

In seven years, Georgia will be looking for another Theron Sapp.

Give 'um Hell, Tech! To Hell With Georgia!

I agree & congrats on a great season & bowl win. If U ever want to revoke his contract I would love to have him back at GSU. Tech will be a team to be reckoned with.

I was surprised to see that GT avg. 16 times a game this year. In 1999 & 2000 GSU we averaged about 120 passing yards per game which opened up the triple and allowed us to averaged 420 rushing & 48 points per game. If they respect GTs passing attack then I believe your really going to pile on the stats & more importantly the wins.

Isn't PJ in 2nd place as far as winning percentage just behind Coach Dodd?

He probably is now. That post was old. I also don't think it was out of line.

Some people don't like coaches that get really angry. I'm not one of those people.

Ciraldo had many other positive posts throughout the year.
