Blue Devil Prediction Thread

Interesting that some people are predicting a low scoring game, I guess because Duke's defense looks pretty good this year. This sports book guy is taking Duke +8 in a low-scoring game:

Duke gave up 19 to #23 Northwestern, 7 points to Tulane (they scored 10 against us) and shut out the might NC Central Eagles.

Avg PA < 9 per game. Maybe that's why the "low scoring game.

My WAG ... 27 - 17 GT victory. (hoping for more like a 45 -10 GT arse whooping of Duke)

I think some of NW 19 was on D/ST. Duke's got a good D, but it doesn't have ND's D. It's clear to me that ND took a few days during UVA week to refine their principles in prep for us. Their scheme was too complicated, too well executed, and too refined to simply implement in 1 week. And frankly it's a scheme that teaches good principles that are applicable to other teams.

We will score points and Duke will not score many points. Duke is good, but we are simply better.

Preseason ACC unit rankings by Athlon had Tech with the #1 OL and Duke with the worst DL. Those assessments might seem a bit off at this point, but the Tech offense will be a much bigger challenge for Duke than they have seen at the line of scrimmage this year. I just can't see Duke matching the athleticism and scheming of ND. After a disappointing showing, I think the Tech OL will make a statement Saturday.

I'd love to see us run roughshod over Duke, but I just don't see it. They whupped us last year at home. We're playing them in their house, and so far, our team has looked terrible in away games. I'll be glad for a win (no matter what margin).

How many of that worst DL are back from last year when they stuffed us (even with Mason).

Last year, we had 483 yds total offense to Duke's 373. If it wasn't for Tech's 2 interceptions and 8 penalties, I don't think we would have lost that game. We had a hard time getting things going early in that game, and the lightening delay didn't help. Duke hardly "stuffed" us, but I'll give them credit, because they did enough to win the game.

I'll say it again: Duke did not stuff us. We made several mistakes in the red zone on that day.

We gained 183 yards of offense in the first half and had a 68 yard kickoff return.

We false started when were going to go for it on 4th and 3 and the play went for a first down in the opposite direction of the false start.

Half 2:

first drive Zach Laskey fumbles for one of the only times in his career

Another 50 yard kickoff return leads to us attempting a 52 yarder that butker misses.

We drive 60 yards until JT throws a pick in the redzone on 2nd down.

We gain 12 yards and JT throws the ball away on 1st down only it doesn't go out of bounds and is picked off.

I won't include the Tim Byerly drives as that was essentially garbage time, but needless to say we knifed through them.

We gained 291 yards on 57 plays for 5.1 yards per play. We also had returns of 68 and 51 yards to shorten some fields.

Welcome to the board Jo. That's probably a little well said and reasonable around here for Stingtalk.

Thank you for the welcome sir. I hardly think these predictions discredit their reason but rather illustrate their faith.

IIRC JT had 33% of his career INTs and Laskey had 100% of his career lost fumbles against Duke last year. Toss in the fact that their defender (seemingly) intentionally rolled up JTs leg with both laying OOB, a lightning delay where about 5k fans came back afterwards, and our DB getting tossed for a legal hit on a 3rd and 20 pass play and you've got a strange game.

Give some credit to their defense - I remember them stepping up to get stops on some critical plays. But all in all, that was a flukish game against a team we would have murdered in November.

Still worried about our perimeter blocking though. We're gonna have multiple true frosh on the field at the same time a decent amount on Saturday at WR and AB. They need to grow up FAST.

Tech rolls them, badly.

41-21. Lots of belly and zone Saturday afternoon. Skov busts a 40-yarder.

If a game is played and no one attends (Duke sell out: 132 tickets sold and a few exchange students thought this was a "Dook ball basket fight") who can verify the score?

In a couple of years do we get to just casually change the score in the programs to whatever we would like?
