Im not sure they would consider him, I think he would better suited to become the next AD

The point was, Tenuta is a one trick pony. When his blitzing is picked up, you get picked apart. The OLs at ugag, Clemson, Miami, ND, or fsu will pick it up. No, we didn't get beat 60-0, but the clear memory of that night is how we got gashed almost every time the blitz happy D didn't work. It wouldn't have required a QB the level of Ryan to do it.

I don't remember any 60-0 games; but I remember two 51-7 games that most Tenuta fans don't. Ask yourself, if Tenuta is really so hot why isn't Auburn after him?? Why hasn't any other football factory thrown $$ his way? Maybe because he never had one of the top 3 defenses in a weak ACC during his tenure here or since. Tenuta isn't a disaster; but he's nothing to get excited about either.
 
Tenuta is the reason we we kept the bowl streak alive during Gailey's tenure.

Don't think anyone has said that. Our problems were on both sides of the ball, but to fire the O/C has to wait until we are ready to change H/Cs.

Same here. We tend to live in the past around here. Bring back Tenuta...bring back Price or Noodles to coach bball. We thought Pepper Rogers and Bill Curry were both going to take us into the elite, too, but it never happened.

He would not come back here - he could not handle having the 2nd largest ego.

And, he would probably demand that he be allowed to recruit as many LB & DL as all the other P5 teams do. And that would cut into CPJ's stockpile of QB, ab, bb, and athletes that must be recruited every year.

CTR would be smart to check elsewhere. Could not blame him. He could recruit to his needs with realistic quantities.

The powers that be at GT would not object so they could hire somebody for less money to further their goals towards athletics.

do we actually recruit fewer defensive guys, or is that just conjecture? I believe we've saved spaces for several defensive guys recently that we didn't land. Tuitt, another DL (tomlinson?), and a few others.

Then I would tell you that I was in the stands that night and was impressed time and again at how Ryan could pick us apart when he wanted to. That was one of only a very few games I can remember where it was essentially 1 vs 11, and the 1 was better than the 11.

I think it is the opposite of conjecture: proven misinformation.

Why would anyone think that we recruit fewer defensive players? The game is still 11 on 11 after all.

And to add to this argument Matty Ice was one of the best QB's to come out of the ACC and was stellar at reading defenses. There were far more examples when Tenuta's D put crazy pressure on QB's and forced teams out of their comfort zone.

Tenuta often looked good against subpar ACC offenses (particularly ones with young QBs), and not so good against good offenses in and out of conference. Too often against good teams his ööööööö defense got 'figured out' and he showed no ability to adjust; but simply tried to solve the problem by calling even more blitzes.

The real solution to our defensive woes is defensive line recruiting. Tenuta had it (but I don't know how responsible for it he was), and Roof hasn't had it so far. Fix the front 4 and suddenly the D will look great again.
 
Why are we even speculating with Tenuta? He is never returning to GT given the circumstances of his departure and the relationship between him and our head coach who is still at the school.

It's not conjecture, it's a flat out lie perpetuated by someone whose goal is to tear down the coach. We recruit just as many defensive players as other teams who don't oversign, and our defense is usually more talented than our offense. We just don't have the defensive scheme to match our offensive scheme that allows us to run all over teams with equal or more talent.

Sorry to disagree aero. I don't recall many DL's that made it to the next level that played while Tenura was the DC. Our success on D was directly related to the scheme he brought to the table. I think maybe you should research the numbers. I believe you will see Tenuta was the best DC we have had at Tech in a long time. No he will not come back as long as PJ is here but we should not settle in a DC that refuses to take more chances.

there is no way to actually compare coaches because they also coached against different level of opponents and with different quality of players under their direction

here is what we all know: Tenuta has ONE gameplan. blitz hard and leave the outside and deep unprotected. that works well when the opposing QB is average or their offensive line is poor. when you play an elite team, it is a sure-fire way to get beat badly in one-on-one matchups.

the guy has gone nowhere, yet some here still adore him even though he would not recruit, and barely seems to have a relationship to his team, much less the university he works for

Tenuta's scheme would be awesome for a team like Georgia Southern or Georgia State. But not for us.

Charles Kelly was the best D guy we had here, better than Tenuta or Roof, imo

note that he coaches for one of the teams that have been elite over the last few years
 
I read a while back that Tenuta took a lot of the depth players for his side of the ball and instilled a real my side vs. the offensive side mentality. Which probably isn't good.

I just don't understand why some people call Paul Johnson a one-trick pony, then turn around and deify Tenuta. At least Paul Johnson calls for more than one play.
