Chip Kelly is gone

I don't get why Kaepernick is being written off. He was the QB during their superbowl run and did a öööö fine job. He really dropped off after their OC went to the Bills (where perennial back up Tyrod Taylor ended up flourishing). I think with the right coaching/scheme, Kaep can be a beast. Although who knows if Chip Kelly is that fit.

Simple. Once NFL coaches get a year of film on you, if you have weaknesses, you are toast.

Manziel and RG3 are probably available too.

I'd take a flyer on RG3 in that offense. He isn't as dynamic as he once was, but still very athletic for a QB. I think he'd be a rather affordable backup.

Or in the case of this year's Falcons, 5 games worth of film

Exactly. I was predicting their play calling over half the time. I heard one of the great former QBs make the case. It may have been Steve Young, that is what stopped the running type QBs. They do well, until there is enough film, then look out.

I believe the problem with RG3 is that his mobility seems to be limited after the knee surgery. Or at least, IIRC that's what they were saying on ESPN back when Jay Gruden was making the decision to bench RG3.

If they could keep Manziel from getting in trouble off the field, he actually would be a potentially very good fit for this offense.

Regarding Kapernick, if they cut him prior to April 1st, he only costs them the prorated part of the remaining $7.3 million of his signing bonus. If they keep him, his salary is $19 million. In other words, I suspect he's gone.

The local chatter is RGIII is dumb as a brick and doesn't/didn't put in the time in the QB meetings.

Yeah, quite true. He's a huge hit on their salary cap.
