I'm calling it now. Leftwich will be a worse QB than Harrington.

Not so fast my friend! According to the Falcons, Joey H. is still the starting QB. Any clues how long that lasts?

But for the record, I agree with you beej. With an offensive line like that, no one is going to do very well.

I am not excited at all about this move at all. I heard on the radio yesterday that we were inquiring about JaMarcus Russell. However, I am not sure if it has any teeth or not.

I don't know about worse - I don't see either of them having any success with the Falcons. The whole team stinks (with exception of Crumpler and the DLine, if they're all healthy).

Leftwich probably has better overall skills (accuracy and arm strength, specifically). If he gets a chance, we'll see if it translates into better QB play for the Falcons. I think it's at least a month or 2 before he sees any action.

The Falcons can be a great team, but they need to take Vick's salary, subtract Harrington's salary, figure out what the difference of that is, and THROW THAT MUCH MONEY AT OFFENSIVE LINEMEN.

I think Blank would have to be crazy to look into putting that much money into one player right now given the Vick situation.

True, but there aren't any linemen out there - it's gonna take time to rebuild the line and Justin Blaylock is a great start.

Which brings up another question about the Falcons. There was a thread on the Hive where the question was brought up - if the Falcons tank, should they start thinking about Matt Ryan instead of Brian Brohm? Someone replied that the Falcons should take McFadden first. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. It seems that there is a greater probability of projecting success for RBs than QBs. And if you take a McFadden first, a guy like Ryan or maybe should be available early in the 2nd round with Brohm and Woodson likely being the 1st 2 guys taken. If you don't have to trade the other 2nd rounder (from the Schaub trade) to move up, then you can use that one for an OT (both tackles will need to be replaced next year).

Brohm > Ryan for the Falcons, because Brohm was coached by Petrino.

I know that's an obstacle but you'd have to use the 1st pick to get Brohm. He's not getting past the top 10. McFadden is a more of an instant impact player than Brohm & close to being one of those "once in a lifetime" talents.

If they do end up with the first pick and they're deadset on taking Brohm, then they have to trade down - someone out there will give up a lot to take McFadden.

I don't think Leftwich will help the Falcons out at all, Harrington's compeltion ratio is like what...70%? His only problem is that he holds on to the ball too long which has caused numerous sacks and I just don't see spending $3.5 mIllion a year on Leftwich as an answer to anything.

We needs some dang recievers, Roddy White finally had a good game, but they seem to lack the ability to get open. If only we would've drafted Calvin! Too much talent in Detroit and the ball is spread to thin for him to truly shine there I think, we'll see. Cant complain about taking Anderson though, needed a replacement for Kearney.

I'd give Leftwich 4 GAMES MAX before his career is officially ruined by injury. Yeah, the Falcons line is that bad.

This was a baaaad pick-up for the Falcs, imo. They should just scrap this season and take the #1 pick next year. This is all just a move to get more butts in the seats. it won't pan out on the field but maybe it'll help beef up Arthur's pockets a touch.

You do know that he had one of the lowest sacks per pass attempt ratios of any QB in the NFL prior to joining the Falcons.

And that's playing for Detroit too.

Back to the draft, McFadden is clearly the best player, but the Falcons don't need a RB.

Actually, they do - Dunn is (nearly) done. Norwood, for all of his speed, is still a project.

A RB that has the ability to throw can change a team moreso than any position other than a QB. See LaDanian Tomlinson.

All I know is that he doesn't have time to sit back their like he's been doing, blame it on the line or on the WRs not getting open whatever, but with this line he needs to take his 3 or 5 step drops and fire.

I wouldn't mind seein ol' Matty takin snaps in Atlanta next year.
That would be nice but the Falcons still made out pretty well with that deal - moving up 2 spots (which, isn't really huge) and getting 2 2nd round draft picks (which is huge). The first pick was used to get Justin Blaylock - the 2nd is the Texans 2nd rounder in the '08 draft.

Are we talking about the Air Force Falcons? Or what? Help me out here.
