I believe if we are serious about winning and we ARE, then we need to admit our mistakes, settle with Gailey on his contract and cut our losses. The future is whats important now and not the Georgia game. And yes I think there is a lot coaches that would love to be here. We need the braintrust (no pun tended) to step up for the sake of our student-athletes we have onboard now and recruits of the future and act now! This year I saw no improvement from game 1 all the way to game 12! I will say this: If the players are buying into Chan and his decisions regarding Suggs/Bilbo, underuse and then overuse of Hollings, second half adjustments, gameplans where we look totally unorganized and undiciplined then they are a lot more naive than I would believe them to be. I'll bet the mortgage they been getting an earful from their highschool coaches. I just would like to look to next year with a fresh perspective and not one of dread about a repeat of what I have seen this year.

Do you know of any coaches that would love this job? If so, who? DB had a hard time coming up with someone, and I feel he doesn't really want this job either.

I would love nothing more than to have a young coach that is hungry and would instill something in our team. That would hire proven assistants and they would be hungry and work extra hard. And players that would be hungry and work extra hard.

you make it sound like we are someones stepchild. I am a Tech fan but football is not my livehood. Thats where the contacts for a new coach starts at: with the guys who football is their job and passion. It certainly would not be in the media. Personally, if you want a name how about Hal Lamb, the Head Coach of the Calhoun High School Yellow Jackets. He has taken a city school with no winning tradition into a AA top five powerhouse (From North Georgia on top of that). His father was/still a legend in Georgia as the coach of Commerce High. Brother Bobby is in his first year at Furman. Don't let his youth fool you. I believe he is 32 yrs. old. He is/could be an excellent recruiter (How many AA schools dress out 85 players). You ask for a name and I am glad to give that one to you and every Jacket supporter.

There are very successful OC and DC's who are just waiting for the opportunity to be a head coach ... Friedgen, Richt, Stoops all came from those backgrounds. Looks like they're doing pretty darn well! You don't necessarily have to get an established one, just GET THE RIGHT ONE!
We didn't!

I knew it wouldn't be long before Friedgen's name came up. It must be ever so preferable to have your team choke, lose to UVA, and lose a BCS spot than to have a superior team come out and whip you like Ga did us. I guess that shows how coaches completely control the outcome of games, and how we should fire a guy after a winning season with someone else's players. If he gets one class of his own players maybe next year UVa can knock US out of the BCS in a humiliating defeat.

How about Georgia's D.C. Brian VanGorder! He sure has his bunch playing with spirit and is very focused(plus makes terrific second half adjustments). And remember that Stoops was D.C. also.

Like 99% of us here, I have never earned a dime coaching college football. But I do know a few things about recruiting and compensation...

If we are willing to pay for a top 10 coach and put together the package to entice one, they will find us.

There is a strong good ole coaches network and the word will be out.

Build it (a complete package) and they will come.....

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">This has to be the most stupid post that I have ever read on the internet. Yes, it is 'ever so preferable' to take a team that has the longest bowl drought in the conference and win the ACC in your first year. Then follow that up with another 10 win season despite losing many players to graduation. That is 'ever so more preferable' than losing to your in state rival by the largest margin in the history of the series in your first year. To recap winning the ACC is more preferable than finishing 4 -4 in the ACC and losing to your instate rival by the largest margin in the history of the series.

Thank you Goldmember. My point was to show examples of those who came from Coordinator positions and have done well, Friedgen is one. The money IS there to get one.

To say there is no one out there is ludicrous! Moreover, to say that Tech would not be a draw is more ludicrous. This school has a great football history and mostly recently stands on its own merit.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">We are in a BCS conference have $1M to spend on a coach. No we can't go out and hire a proven winner from another BCS conference like a Texas could (UGA hasn't been able to do this either). But we could hire almost any assistent or non BCS coach in the county.

Goldmember: Only a million to spend? Where did that number come from, a personal contribution?

I suspect we have the financial resources to attract the talent we need, not sure we have the eyesight to identify it....

71, I agree wholeheartedly with you. What I want to know is if all these good assts. were available and would have loved to come here, why CG? I was under the impression that DB had very few names on his "list". Tom O'Brien would have been better but he did not want to come here and GTAA or Clough did not want him.

We better get used to getting roasted in the media for quite some time. Is that what we bargained for with CG?

Bizzy,

Sorting out the good from the bad is a very difficult process and takes a selection committee with considerable talent (and a little luck doesn't hurt either

).

Dr. Clough, if he has the fortitude to move now, needs a search committee that can look a bit deeper than a man's religion and previous residence in Georgia.

As an added comment, I hope we are not limited to Dave Braine's list. Tech has the resources to put together a compensation package that should be sufficient to recruit just about anyone.

I don't think Dr. Clough will allow DB to handpick the next one.

Clough is the one that has this all screwed up now. He has been involved since they screwed over Smith. Aren't big money and the administration "very satisfied" withe the hire, the transition and the season? Try putting that in empty seats next year.

Friegden has done well?

You must be kidding. He has not even gone to a "crappy" bowl the past two years...and until this year we have OWNED Friedgen at Maryland...and they were lucky this year.

I think they were flash in the pan early with Friedgen from emotion....then you have to sustain which he cannot do....it is not his style.

Man...no offense, but when you have five years to come up with a reply, I'd expect something a lot more detailed and revolutionary than that.

This Thread Is Closed. Please Do Not Post Anymore Stupid Crap. Thanks.

Fridge has:

- Won 10+ games in 3 of his 6 years at Maryland and won 9 games in another.

- Won a conference championship

- Appeared in a BCS Bowl

- Finished in the Top 25 3 times

- Won 3 out of 4 bowl games by a combined score of 95 to 17 all against BCS conference teams.

In addition, Maryland went to the Champs Sports Bowl last year, had a better record than us last year, and has a better record over Gailey's tenure.

Gailey has:

- Never won 10 games in his 5 seasons

- Never won a conference championship

- Never been to a BCS bowl

- Never finished in the Top 25

- Has a losing bowl record (2-3) despite only playing 2 BCS conference teams

If Fridge has not done well, how would describe how Gailey is doing?
