What does CPJ have to do to keep his job?

6 wins and a shitty bowl. Another 3 or 4 win failure and the elites will pull the rug.

When I recall this play from my memory it always ends with Godsey's leg braces shattering into pieces as he streaks towards the end zone.

If Tech is married to the option, we are perhaps the best job in the country for option coaches, at least for now. ... Maybe Tech will be the leading triple option program for the next few decades, even after CPJ leaves. ...

I think the traditional run based option offenses will go away sooner rather than later. The reason is that rules will continue to change unfavorably for those offenses and other offenses (i.e., pass oriented offenses) will be better suited to the future rules. I believe that eventually the rules will state that all form of blocks below the waist are illegal and that all blocks have to be made from the front. These changes will neuter the crackback block and eliminate the cut block. I'm also sure the QB position will continue to receive favorable rules regarding when and how he can be tackled during a pass play, thus further cementing the preference for passing oriented offenses. I can also see additional rules related to permissible helmet-to-helmet contact being implemented, which would further favor offenses where the offensive players strive to separate themselves from the defenders. I've no idea what such rules will look like, but I believe they will come about.

I'm not convinced that rules changes will be any harder on running offenses than passing offenses. The targeting calls mostly involve defenseless receivers and QBs, and the focus so far has been on head injuries. To my knowledge, there is not much if any evidence that cut blocking is associated with increased injuries, and our offense would adapt with modified blocking if the rules limited what we do now. Our passing game tends to be deeper passes with one-on-one coverage, which are typically safer than crossing routes and slants. You might be correct that new rules protecting QBs and receivers will result in passing becoming easier to execute, but if that happens, there would probably be other rules to compensate for the handicap it would place on defenses.

So eventually football will become soccer. Except the ball will have to stay in the air the entire time.

I had not thought about this issue before, but you are making a very good point.

I say we get rid of the head coach and outsource to India for a couple of years to pay off the basketball head coach debt. He doesn't even need to come to the games, just teleconference in on an iPad that he can drive around on a mini-Segway. Keep all the assistants as they are. We'd still probably win 3 games.

Nope. I would be happy to see him innovate like his former assistant does at Navy. Glad we didn't play them last year!

Hope we never have to play them, they look way better coached at the option.

No, it will be come a game of glorified flag-football...which is the direction it's already trending towards. It does not have to happen that way, but unless fans demand that the sport stop being wussified, then that's what we'll have. I was at a clinic with Coach Johnson in the Spring. He told us that there is a sizable lobby who is pushing to have all tackling below the knees banned. Yes, tackling anyone below the knees will be a penalty, So, all you little 175 lb. DBs who wanna tackle 230+ lbs. running backs (or 250+ lbs. TEs)....I hope you have some really good health insurance. Sometimes people who propose rules have no concept of just how profoundly they'll transform the game.

I think he has 2 years. But if we beat Georgia in at least one of them or get 9 wins each season, theyll keep him.

There are very very few coaches in the NFL or CFB that will win 9 games here two seasons in a row, and yet you think this standard is required to save him!? LMFAO

I'm not saying it's right or not. Just saying I think that's what's going to keep him around. The reason we keep him even if we were to have another really bad year is for money. Honestly, I like the guy, I'm just giving my prediction of what the GTAA will do if he has those kinds of seasons
