Depends on the play.
In the triple option, the DE is the first read.
So the DTs and MLB get blocked by G-C-G, the playside tackle blocks the OLB, and the playside DE is read.
If the DE goes for the QB, then the ball goes to the BB and he gets five or six yards before encountering the strong safety, who is hopefully worried about tackling the QB or the pitch guy, and the ball is 9 yards downfield when the BB meets the FS.
If the DE goes for the BB, then the QB pulls the ball out, runs around the DE who's busy tackling the wrong guy, and runs out with the trailing A back as his pitch man. The strong safety becomes the 2nd read. If he takes the QB, the ball is pitched. If he takes the pitch guy, the ball is kept. And again, the first defender a ball carrier encounters is the Free Safety.
Then if we're lucky enough, the defense is in man coverage and the corner ran himself out of the play chasing our WR, and our WR cracks the free safety, and it's an easy touchdown from anywhere on the field. Or we make one guy miss and it's a TD.
Everything I said might change depending on defensive alignment.
So yeah, that's how complicated our plays are. And when they work, hoooo boy do they look freaking cool. And when two guys öööö their assignments up, hooo boy do they look stupid.
