Jimbo to TA&M

He was referring to 10 years ago, when Jimbo was OC and Chan was close to getting Dolphins job. Jimbo was odds on favorite if Chan left.
Gotcha. But he wouldn't have stayed 2 years at Tech with it's limitations. He has held FSU up at every turn for more money and facilities

aTm a cult following? Yeah I can see that description from outsiders.

But, if I may, my late uncle was on their athletic board right after he had retired as a V-P for Ford. He, like many family members of folks here, grew up in the depression, but in his case on a sharecroppers farm. Back then aTm was what the initials say - Texas Agricultural & Military. Believe it or not, somewhat like Auburn started.

But, like many, my uncle had nothing growing up. aTm was the only place for a kid like him to have a chance. And when people like that get a chance they don’t forget, and while some call it a cult, it breeds a loyalty beyond all else. Combined with the main demographics (Agriculture & Military) and I think that loyalty is compounded way beyond normal.

And that school has a lot of unique traditions. From the Band, the 12th man, Friday night yell practice, to the old bonfire before the ut game.

They are just loyal with their support spiritually, physically, emotionally and financially.

JMO & Observation.

As for Jimbo, remember he got in a shouting match with some fans? He knows um might be stepping it up as well. Maybe time to go.
I have similar story with a coworker's father who is in his late 80's. The father buys season's tickets and my friend drives his dad to TAM games from ATL at least four times a season and to at least three away games. Weird! (to me)

Somebody explain Texas A & M to me. No national titles since 1939, seemingly an 8 or 9 win program in general. Second fiddle to Texas throughout history. How do they get so much money? Alums in the oil industry or what?

My Dad is an alum (sorry, it's "Former Student" there) as well as a former athlete. He has volunteered a ton of time and money over the years to the school, and he was originally from Iowa. The easiest way to explain it is that Texas A&M has developed a unique culture that, when all of the elements are combined, creates a very strong love of the place. People walk around the campus and say "Howdy" to each other. The bonfire (when they used to have it before the accident) was an amazing event. The Corp is very strong there, which I think lends itself to loyalty. The original 12th Man tradition, Bear Bryant and the Junction Boys, the Fightin' Texas Aggie band (which is awesome, if you haven't seen them), all of these things make for a culture that indoctrinates you.

I remember coming to Tech and wondering why people weren't sticking around for the uga game on Thanksgiving, and wondering why students sat down at games, and wondering why people weren't more enthusiastic about the school and gameday. The experience is just more immersive there.

I had thought the buyout was always symmetrical. Guess not. Pretty silly how FSU's AD got so easily Hewitted.

I don't care if it's Nick Saban. No coach should get a $40m buyout. Clemson was just as dumb for also giving Dabo a near-$40m buyout.

Jimbo looks like a fine coach with a string of bad luck, but if I was an FSU fan, I would just want to get out from under that buyout.
I live in Tallahassee, and that is the thinking from most. It became pretty clear he was losing the program and the players had stopped buying into his message. Most FSU fans want a clean break and a new set of eyes

Interesting perspective. Yeah, I guess I'm way too steeped in SEC country (I know A & M is in the SEC now, but it doesn't seem like it, really). But, with other really storied programs around the country (Michigan, Ohio St. Notre Dame, etc.) I instinctively "get it". I've just never had much occasion to think about Texas A & M one way or the other. Good stuff, thanks.

It hasn't been a lot of fun for Jimbo in Tallahassee for a couple of years. He loses to 3-9 Georgia Tech, his wife is humping ex-gator players, this year is in the toilet, etc. Maybe a change of scenery coupled with a box car full of cash would be what he needs. Who would FSU get to coach?

I read somewhere that Free Shoes is thinking about running the TO...

Jimbo is the worst head coach to win it all next to Mack Brown. There’s no excuse to ever win only 5 games at FSU. Ever.

Any idiot with all-world QB/RB play can win a MNC. (See Dooley at UGa as well)

It took an all-world coach just to keep Famous on the field. And at one point, off the field. There's more to coaching than just X's and O's.

Hey, I wonder if we could get Chizik as DC. Might be awkward if he took Roof's job, though. But Malzahn took his!

Landry is well connected and knows his stuff. I consider this the first substantive info on Jimbo. That, and my cousin is a play by play guy down there, and without first hand knowledge, thinks Jimbo is gone.
The warchant people, and the insiders think so too. He has really alienated a lot of the fanbase with his annual "interested in _____SEC job", and the total lack of discipline and control of his players. He has alnost forced his own hand

Kinda, but Brown also averaged 7.5 wins in the last 4 years after those 12, including a 5 win season and never more than 8. Still somewhat a point in that they've still done worse, but not as strong.

Really don't think Jimbo goes to A&M. I think his agent is playing up the interest angle. A P5 poaching a P5 coach is so rare. Unless FSU and Jimbo are playing chicken in regards to quitting or firing. Still, it's one bad season. I don't see it happening.
